Colts Moving On From Matt Hasselbeck, Will Have Josh Freeman As Backup

Feb 29, 2016 2:14 PM

The Indianapolis Colts won't bring back Matt Hasselbeck in 2016.

Hasselbeck was 5-3 as a starter last season, helping the Colts stay in the playoff picture without Andrew Luck.

The Colts plan on having Josh Freeman serve as the backup at quarterback to Luck next season.

More Details Emerge Of Peyton Manning's Alleged Sexual Assault At UT

Feb 13, 2016 2:14 PM

Peyton Manning had two alleged sexual assaults against Jamie Ann Naughright during his collegiate career at Tennessee.

Naughright was the Director of Health & Wellness for the Men's Athletic Program at Tennessee.

Details of a 1994 incident were redacted from a 74-page document but there is information about an incident in 1996.

At page 14 of the 74-page document, Naughright’s lawyers tell the story of the 1996 incident, with excerpts from Naughright’s deposition regarding what allegedly occurred while she was examining Peyton Manning’s lower leg for a stress fracture.

“It was the gluteus maximus, the rectum, the testicles, and the area in between the testicles,” Naughright said. “And all that was on my face when I pushed him up and off.”

The 74-page document then alleges that Manning worked with another Tennessee trainer, Mike Rollo, to “hatch a story” that Manning was “mooning” another UT athlete. That was the version, according to Naughright’s lawyers, that Peyton Manning and Rollo provided to investigators and the media, and it was the version that appeared in the Mannings’ book.

“That’s what struck me as so bizarre about the whole situation,” Peyton Manning testified in the lawsuit, “that she was distraught, she was upset, and it seemed unusual. And I think I’ve described it in here as an incredible awkward or unusual occurrence. And I have no explanations for it.”

The 74-page document also alleges that Peyton Manning later taunted Naughright by reenacting the incident two other times.

“Mr. Manning looked at me. The athlete was behind me. He pulled down his pants and sat on the athlete’s face,” Naughright testified as to the first incident of reenacting/taunting.

Archie Manning allegedly made comments to the ghost writer of the Mannings’ book regarding Naughright, including an alleged statement from Archie Manning to the ghost writer that Naughright, who is white, “had been out with a lot of black guys.”

Matt Hasselbeck 'Strongly Leaning' Toward Playing In 2016

Feb 12, 2016 2:09 PM

Matt Hasselbeck is open to returning for an 18th NFL season at the age of 40.

"I haven't really made up my mind completely on it," Hasselbeck said. "You have to kind of count the cost to what it would mean. What you're saying 'yes' to and what you're saying 'no' to. My kids are getting older, but all in all I would say that I'm strongly leaning toward playing again. We'll see."

Hasselbeck has been a strong mentor for Andrew Luck with the Indianapolis Colts, but they could decide to sign a younger backup.

Hasselbeck was 5-3 as a starter in 2015.

Colts Promise Andrew Luck's New Contract Will Be 'Shocking'

Feb 11, 2016 12:55 PM

Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts will almost certainly agree upon a long-term extension this offseason.

"It's going to be a big number," Jim Irsay told WISH-TV, via the team's official site. "It's going to be a shocking number, nine figures and probably a $20 million starting point per year, but again we will find the right number to get to."

Joe Flacco, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, Cam Newton, Tony Romo, Colin Kaepernick and Jay Cutler have all signed nine-figure deals in the past five years.

The shocking part of Luck's deal could come in the form of a guarantee percentage.

Irsay Asks Peyton Manning To Retire With Colts

Feb 4, 2016 11:52 AM

Jim Irsay would like Peyton Manning to retire with the Indianapolis Colts.

"I want him to and I've asked him to," Irsay told WISH-TV's Anthony Calhoun in Indianapolis. "I would love to have him retire as a Colt and how he handles that part of his career."

Irsay conceded that Manning "really has tunnel vision."

Manning left the Colts in 2012 to join the Denver Broncos.

"I told Peyton right after the (AFC Championship Game) everyone here is so excited, and it's so deserving because I don't think anyone is more respected by everyone in the game, meaning you guys in the media to the players on the field he's playing against," Irsay added. "It's just so deserving, it really is."
