DeAndre Hopkins Ends Brief Holdout

Aug 1, 2016 5:29 PM

DeAndre Hopkins will report to camp with the Houston Texans despite his disappointment in not having an extension.

"I too am disappointed that the Texans organization has elected not to enter into contract negotiation to secure my future as a Texan," the statement read. "I have expressed my sincere position regarding my contract status and with sound mind have expressed my stands (sic) to the Texans organization.

"My focus also is on the 2016 season and to help my team reach our ultimate goal.

"Having said that I am returning to the Houston Texans to play for a Super Bowl in Houston, Texas. ... We are excited about returning to the team and grind this camp."

Hopkins is entering the fourth year of his rookie contract and is set to make $1.4 million this year.

DeAndre Hopkins Holding Out Of Texans' Camp

Jul 31, 2016 6:15 PM

DeAndre Hopkins is holding out of training camp as he seeks a new deal from the Houston Texans.

Hopkins, who is entering the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, did not report for the start of the Texans' camp, according to sources. He will be subject to fines of $40,000 for each day of camp he misses.

Because the Texans picked up the fifth-year option available on all first-round pick contracts, Hopkins technically has two seasons left on his deal. He also has a $445,000 roster bonus due Wednesday, the fifth day of camp, that he will miss out on if he hasn't returned by then.

Hopkins was a first-round pick in 2013, and the Texans extended their 2011 and 2012 first-round picks [J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus] as they entered their fourth seasons.

DeAndre Hopkins Wants To Be Treated For What He's Worth

Jul 25, 2016 1:43 PM

DeAndre Hopkins, who is in line for a contract extension, says he just wants fair market value.

"I'm not looking for a certain range," Hopkins said. "I just want to be treated for what I'm worth. That's fair to say, right?"

Hopkins caught a touchdown pass from four different quarterbacks as the Houston Texas struggled at the position in 2015. Still, he managed to haul in 111 receptions for 1,521 yards.

The Texans exercised the fifth-year option on Hopkins' deal in April, so this season may not be the last one under his rookie contract.

J.J. Watt Could Be Out Up To 10 Weeks

Jul 24, 2016 10:22 AM

There have been conflicting reports as to how long J.J. Watt will be sidelined after undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back this week.

A 6-8 week timeline was initially pegged, but it is now being suggested that it may take 10 weeks for Watt to recover fully.

A 10-week timetable would have Watt ready to return in the last full week of September, which would mean an Oct. 2 debut for Watt against the Tennessee Titans in Week 4.

The Houston Texans play the Chicago Bears, Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots in the first three weeks of the regular season.

Jul 12, 2016 3:38 PM

Tom Savage was robbed of his 2015 season due to a shoulder injury, but says he's healthy and ready to compete for a job with the Houston Texans.

Savage would have had a chance to start for the Texans, who ended up needing to Brandon Weeden.

"I'm healthy and ready to roll," Savage said. "Whatever I can do to help Brock [Osweiler]. He's a great guy and we're all just trying to win."

The Texans drafted Savage in the fourth round in 2014.
