J.J. Watts helped the Houston Texans create up to $8 million in salary cap space by restructuring his contract.

Watt agreed to turn a $10 million roster bonus he was due into a signing bonus.

He signed a six-year deal prior to the 2014 season that could pay him $100 million.

The Houston Texans have signed Vince Wilfork to a two-year deal worth $9 million. The deal includes $5 million in guaranteed money.

Wilfork was released by the New England Patriots this offseason.

"This has been an interesting process for me and my family, one we have taken very seriously and given a lot of thought," Wilfork wrote in a message posted on his official Twitter page Monday. "We want to thank the Kraft family and the entire Patriot organization for the last 11 years however we will be starting a new chapter in our lives as Houston Texans."

Cecil Shorts has agreed upon a two-year, $6 million deal with the Houston Texans.

Shorts' best season came in 2012 when he caught 55 passes for 979 yards and seven touchdowns.

Shorts has struggled with injuries and inconsistencies at the quarterback position with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The New York Jets have acquired Ryan Fitzpatrick in a trade with the Houston Texans.

Fitzgerald, who completed 63% of his passes last year with the Texans, totaled 17 INTs against only 8 interceptions. The 32-year-old Harvard product also played under Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey in Buffalo from 2010-’12, firing 71 TD passes and amassing 10,232 yards through the air.

Andre Johnson has agreed to sign with the Indianapolis Colts on a three-year, $21 million deal.

Johnson became a free agent after the Houston Texans released him.

Johnson also considered signing with the Philadelphia Eagles, but will instead follow Frank Gore to the Colts. Johnson and Gore were teammates at the University of Miami.

Jadeveon Clowney had to go to the hospital after being bit by the dog owned by D.J. Swearinger.

Swearinger's pit bull bit Clowney on the arm.

The dog’s vaccinations are up to date and Clowney was not seriously hurt.

Clowney is currently recovering from microfracture knee surgery after an injury-plagued rookie year.

Andre Johnson has been released by the Houston Texans.

Johnson still had two years and $21.5 million remaining on his deal, making a trade prohibitive.

Johnson will turn 34 in July and has regressed in recent seasons.

The Houston Texans have agreed to terms with Ryan Mallett and also have agreement on a deal with Brian Hoyer.

Mallett will sign a two-year deal worth $7 million.

Hoyer's deal will be for three seasons.

Bill O'Brien also previously worked with Hoyer during their time together with the New England Patriots.

Kareem Jackson has agreed upon a four-year, $34 million deal with the Houston Texans.

Jackson was set to be one of the top cornerbacks on the open market.

"Knowing my future, I don't have to sit here and worry about 'Where are we going to end up, where are we going to have to pick up and move to?'" Jackson told ESPN.com. "Knowing that I can be here in Houston is definitely a weight off my shoulders."

The Texans had conversations about Jackson's return prior to the 2014 season, but they never reached official negotiations. The New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles showed interest in Jackson.

The agent for Andre Johnson has denied approaching the Houston Texans for a trade.

The idea of a trade was broached first by the Texans after the team told Johnson they wanted him to take a reduced role and salary.

“Andre did not, in the last couple of days, go in and ask for a trade,” Kennard McGuire said. “Certain things were expressed to [Andre] in which he didn’t agree with. And at that point in time permission was thusly granted to seek an opportunity elsewhere. That was not something that we asked for. That was something that was presented to us.

“The contractual matters never did come up. The only thing that was discussed was the role and that was in fact that there would be a reduced role.”
