Kiper Has Texans Selecting Johnny Manziel In First Mock

In Mel Kiper Jr.'s first mock draft, he has the Houston Texans selecting Johnny Manziel with the first overall pick.

"I spoke to a number of high-ranking NFL evaluators this week, and this is the one QB anyone felt certain was a top-5 pick," wrote Kiper.

Kiper ranks Manziel No. 11 on his Big Board.

The St. Louis Rams are slotted to take Jake Matthews, followed by Jadeveon Clowney to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Blake Brottles to the Cleveland Browns and Sammy Watkins to the Oakland Raiders.

Teddy Bridgewater is slotted to the Minnesota Vikings with the eighth overall pick.

Romeo Crennel To Become Texans' Defensive Coordinator

The Houston Texans will hire Romeo Crennel as their defensive coordinator.

Crennel, like Bill O'Brien, is from the Bill Belichick coaching tree. But the two men have never worked together before and had never even met before their interview.

Crennel was out of football in 2013 after being fired as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Texans Owner Open To Trading No. 1 Pick

Texans owner Bob McNair is open to trading out of the No. 1 overall selection in this year's draft, according to an ESPN.com report.

"Maybe we'll trade down and still get a quarterback that can do the job and get an outstanding defensive player," McNair said Friday. "It's an exciting time. Everything's a moving target. Lot of different pieces."

Texans To Hire Bill O'Brien

The Houston Texans have reached agreement with Bill O'Brien to become their next head coach.

O'Brien will replace Gary Kubiak.

Bob McNair wanted a head coach with previous experience in the NFL and also as a head coach.

O'Brien is a protege of Bill Belichick.
