Rodgers: No Quarterback Calls Their Own Plays

Jun 16, 2015 11:18 AM

When Mike McCarthy delegated playcall duties to Tom Clements, some believed Aaron Rodgers should just call the plays for the Green Bay Packers.

The thinking went that Rodgers should call his own plays since Peyton Manning appears to.

"Well, Peyton doesn't do that," Rodgers recently told ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky. "Nobody does that."

Rodgers and Manning will call audibles at the line of scrimmage, but they get a play from the sidelines beforehand.

"I think everybody would want a starting point," Rodgers said. "We all have moments where we have (called the plays), whether it's a no-huddle situation or two-minute. Everybody wants a starting point. It's tough to have to call every single play, so it's always nice when you can have a good starting point and you can make a slight adjustment if you have to."

Packers Encouraged By Play Of Scott Tolzien

Jun 10, 2015 7:02 PM

The Green Bay Packers are encouraged by the play of backup quarterback Scott Tolzien in OTAs.

Tolzien nearly threaded a 24-yard touchdown pass to rookie tight end Kennard Backman on third-and-10 during the two-minute drill. On fourth-and-10 with 2 seconds left on the clock, Tolzien did. He fired a pass to rookie tight end Mitchell Henry, who made a leaping grab in the end zone to lead the No. 2 offense to a drill-winning score.

"Scott Tolzien has taken a step," Mike McCarthy said after practice. "I think he's definitely done that through the OTAs. I thought he had, shoot, about three outstanding throws in the two-minute; actually, the last two plays of the two-minute were big-time throws. He's taking that step with his opportunities in the OTA practice environment."

Aaron Rodgers Confident Packers Have Talent To Make Super Bowl Run

Jun 11, 2015 11:52 AM

Aaron Rodgers believes the Green Bay Packers have the talent to make another run to the Super Bowl.

The Packers nearly defeated the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game.

"I think the talent is definitely there," Rodgers told ESPN's Rob Demovsky on Tuesday. "But just like last year, you've got to see how the team comes together."

The Packers were able to retain Randall Cobb and Bryan Bulaga this offseason.
