Rams Trade Former No. 2 Pick Greg Robinson To Lions

Jun 15, 2017 10:15 AM

The Los Angeles Rams have traded Greg Robinson to the Detroit Lions for a 2018 second round pick.

Robinson was the second overall pick in the 2014 draft but was demoted. Robinson played in 44 career games with the Rams, starting 40 of them. Los Angeles had tried moving him to guard and right tackle before eventually deciding to trade him to Detroit with one year left on his rookie contract.

"Since we drafted Greg, he has been committed to our organization, his teammates and community outreach," Rams general manager Les Snead said in a statement. "We appreciate his dedication and the effort he's put forth over the past three seasons. We wish him the best as he embarks on this new chapter."

The Lions have a need at offensive tackle with Taylor Decker out several months.

Golden Tate On Whether He's Underpaid: 'Yep'

Jun 12, 2017 10:35 AM

Golden Tate, who is entering the fourth season of a five-year deal with the Detroit Lions, was asked over the weekend whether he thinks he's underpaid.

"Yep," Tate said quickly and succinctly.

Tate has caught at least 90 passes every year since signing with the Lions in 2014. During the past three seasons, Tate is No. 6 in the NFL in receptions with 280 and No. 10 in receiving yards with 3,221.

He's also the NFL's leader in yards after catch since 2014 with 1,831 yards and Pro Football Focus posted a statistic that he accounted for 73 missed tackles since 2014 -- also best in the among receivers. Tate tweeted that stat Thursday after Julian Edelman signed a two-year, $15 million extension.

"Just saw my buddy get extended and that's obviously the goal," Tate said. "I have this season and next season until I can really think about it, but it wasn't nothing malicious or mean hinting at it. I mean, I'm hinting at it in a few years, of course.

"I would love to stay here. I'm having a lot of fun. We have a great foundation. I love where we're going so I'd love to be here but we'll see. I've still got time."

Tate will make $6 million in 2017.

Lions Lose LT Taylor Decker For 4-6 Months With Torn Labrum

Jun 10, 2017 1:37 PM

Taylor Decker will be out for at least four to six months with a torn labrum, which means he could miss at least four games.

Decker is the starting left tackle of the Detroit Lions. Decker played every snap for the Lions last season, which moved Riley Reiff to right tackle.

Jim Caldwell said the franchise would provide an update on Decker in the fall.

"Just kind of the nature of our game," Caldwell said. "You've got to adjust. That's one of the things that I think our personnel office does a great job of, I think our players do a tremendous job of. We'll adjust and keep moving."

Calvin Johnson Repaid $1M Signing Bonus To Lions

Jun 8, 2017 6:42 PM

Calvin Johnson repaid at least $1 million of his signing bonus back to the Detroit Lions when he retired in March of 2016.

That’s significantly more than the $320,000 NFL Players Association records showed Johnson paid, or about 1/10th of the $3.2 million signing bonus proration the Lions would have been entitled to under the league’s collective bargaining agreement.

The Lions required Johnson to pay back part of the $16 million signing bonus he earned on the contract he signed in spring 2012.
