Demaryius Thomas: Broncos Are 'Gonna Need More Offense'

Sep 19, 2016 8:41 AM

The Denver Broncos are 2-0 and in sole possession of first place in the AFC West, but some players are upset over struggles on offense.

"We're gonna need more offense, that's for sure," Demaryius Thomas said. "It's hard -- you're always putting it on the defense, and at some point that's tough to count on. There's no reason to keep it close. Last year, a lot of things went our way, but that can catch up to you."

Thomas then gestured to teammate Emmanuel Sanders.

"You've got two guys ... damn, the best duo in the league, and we haven't had 100 yards in a game yet. He's got, what, eight catches? I've got nine. I mean ..."

Through two games, Thomas has nine catches for 138 yards and no touchdowns, far off pace to match his 105 receptions, 1,304 yards and six TDs from 2015.

Sanders, who caught 76 passes for 1,135 yards and six touchdowns last season, has eight catches for 88 yards in two games.

DeMarcus Ware Fractures Right Forearm

Sep 19, 2016 1:10 AM

DeMarcus Ware fractured his right forearm, and the team will try to determine Monday what that injury will mean for his 2016 season.

Ware suffered a fracture to his ulna bone, the smaller bone of the forearm that is on the side of the arm opposite of the thumb.

"We have to see in the morning, actually, what the case is going to be -- if it's something he can play with or if it's something that has to be fixed," Gary Kubiak said.

Ware was cradling his arm as he walked to the sideline with 14 minutes to play in the third quarter, and he was taken to the locker room.

Brandon Marshall Will Donate $300 Per Tackle To Denver Charities

Sep 14, 2016 4:14 PM

Brandon Marshall, who was the only Denver Broncos player to kneel during the national anthem before last Thursday night's season opener, will donate $300 for each tackle he makes this season to local charities.

Marshall made his announcement on Instagram, posting with a picture of himself and Denver police chief Robert C. White.

"On Thursday, Sept. 8, I took a knee for the National Anthem to take a stand against social injustice," Marshall wrote.

"My intent was not to offend anyone but rather to simply raise awareness and create some dialogue toward affecting positive change in our communities. In the last week, I've had a lot of productive conversations with people I respect, including Chief White of the Denver Police Department. I really appreciate all of them taking the time to listen to me and offer some insight and feedback on ways we can all make a difference. I've also had a lot of time to personally reflect on important issues such as race and gender equality, the treatment of our military veterans, our relationship with law enforcement, educational opportunities for our youth, and many more. I recognize and applaud the significant progress that has been made in these areas made possible only through the hard work of so many dedicated leaders. But, it's clear there is so more work to be done by all of us. Together, we all need to Stand Up for change. This starts with me.''

Demaryius Thomas, who suffered a hip injury Thursday night, underwent an MRI on Friday that now will be sent out for a second opinion, according to league sources.

But there is some concern that Thomas could miss some time, depending on the second opinion.

Thomas had four receptions for 48 yards in the Broncos' season-opening victory.

Brandon Marshall Kneels During Anthem To 'Create Dialogue'

Sep 9, 2016 8:30 AM

Brandon Marshall knelt during the national anthem before Thursday night's season-opener between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.

The linebacker was a teammate of Colin Kaepernick's at Nevada.

"I'm not against the military, police or America. I'm against social injustice," Marshall said, adding that he "felt it was the right thing to do" and that he will continue to kneel during the anthem this season.

Marshall said he also believes taking a knee during the anthem is a way to "create dialogue."

"I think the more people do it, the more it's seen -- there's going to be hate mail, hate comments, but at the same time, people will talk about it," he said. "Some people are going to stand by me, some people aren't. But I know my loved ones, the people that love me and care about me, they're going to stand behind me, and that's all that matters to me.

"A lot of stuff that happened this summer, the police brutality, that sparked a conversation. We can talk all we want, but actions speak louder than words, so when [Kaepernick] took a knee, or sat down, he got people thinking. Then he was able to say everything he felt, everything he meant."

Panthers Upset Over Hits To Cam Newton's Helmet

Sep 9, 2016 2:53 PM

Cam Newton didn't feel like he was targeted with helmet-to-helmet hits in Thursday night's game against the Denver Broncos, but his Carolina Panthers teammates disagreed.

A flag was thrown on a hit to the quarterback just once.

"Do you see them calling it?" Thomas Davis asked. "Early in the game, a guy took two, three steps and hit him in the head and they didn't call a penalty.

"We've talked about it ad nauseam. It doesn't matter. They ain't going to change it."

Greg Olsen believes officials need to start treating Newton like an NFL quarterback.

"I know he's the biggest guy on the field, but he's still the quarterback," Olsen said. "We'll see what some of those [helmet-to-helmet hits] look like. Obviously, we got one of them, but we didn't get many yards off of it."

Ron Rivera said a couple of the shots Newton took "were unfortunate," but Rivera didn't want to take a hard line on what happened until after he reviewed film.

"We'll see," he said. "We've got to look at the tapes. I don't want to pass any judgment on that."

Broncos Had Trade Interest In Case Keenum

Sep 8, 2016 8:40 PM

The Denver Broncos had interest in Case Keenum during the preseason and conducted trade talks with the Los Angeles Rams.

The Rams would have required a "huge pick or player compensation" to move their Week 1 starter.

Gary Kubiak has a familiarity with Keenum going back to their days with the Houston Texans.

The Broncos decided instead to make Trevor Siemian their starter at quarterback.

Broncos Consider Trading Aqib Talib

Sep 3, 2016 7:41 PM

The Denver Broncos are reportedly making Aqib Talib available in trade talks.

John Elway denied the report.

"False," Elway told reporters. "(Talib's) name was never brought up anywhere."

Talib suffered a gunshot wound to his lower right leg in the early morning hours of June 5 in Dallas. He avoided surgery and was released from the hospital the following day.

Talib returned to practice with the Broncos Aug. 8 and was asked if he shot himself.

Mark Sanchez To Sign With Cowboys

Sep 4, 2016 9:18 PM

Mark Sanchez will sign with the Dallas Cowboys on a one-year deal after being released by the Denver Broncos.

Sanchez's future in Denver looked bleak after Broncos coach Gary Kubiak named Trevor Siemian his starting quarterback and had rookie Paxton Lynch take all the snaps in the team's preseason finale against the Arizona Cardinals.

John Elway said he had "a long talk'' with Sanchez Saturday morning.

"I will tell you this ... he handled it with great class,'' Elway said. "I know he's disappointed, he wanted to stay here and, you know, we just thought with where we are, we thought it was best for us to different ways at this time. But Mark was great, and you know what? He handled everything great ... I thought he handled it great and it's just unfortunate he didn't win that job.''
