Champ Bailey Retires From NFL

Nov 9, 2014 6:22 PM

Champ Bailey has decided to retire from the NFL.

Bailey had been with the New Orleans Saints in training camp, but failed to make the roster.

Bailey was a 12-time Pro Bowler and was released in the offseason by the Denver Broncos to create cap space.

"At this time, Champ has decided not to accept on-field opportunities and pursue another career path," agent Jack Reale said. "He could be playing right now if he wanted to be."

Bailey was acquired by the Broncos in 2004 in a blockbuster deal for Clinton Portis.

Peyton Manning Criticizes Video Game Operator

Nov 3, 2014 12:10 PM

Peyton Manning was critical of the Denver Broncos' in-game entertainment in their 35-21 win over the San Diego Chargers.

Paul Cornick was called for a false start just after the two-minute warning, which Manning blamed on the video board operator.

"I got a problem with our scoreboard operator; I've got to have a little talk with him,'' Manning said after the game. "I'm not sure what he's doing. He's playing music and showing players dancing, getting the crowd fired up and we have the ball. I don't think we should be doing that.''

Manning also referenced a sequence from earlier in the second half, when Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers was shown on the giant video board as the crowd booed and then Manning would be shown to cheers as the images went back and forth several times to alternating boos and cheers.

"And I don't think we should be showing their quarterback on the sideline,'' Manning said. "I thought that was kind of disrespectful . . . our scoreboard operator, it wasn't his best night.''

Broncos Table Extension Talks With Demaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas

Oct 24, 2014 12:02 PM

The Denver Broncos have tabled extension talks with Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas until after the current season.

Both players, two of the best receiving options in the entire NFL, are scheduled to become free agents.

The Broncos have negotiated with both men, but with neither close to a deal, Denver recognizes that it will have to wait until after the season to address it again.

Wes Welker is also playing on an expiring contract.

Manning, Receivers Rehearsed Fake Keep-Away With Record Ball

Oct 28, 2014 7:03 AM

Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos' wide receivers practiced playing a game of keep-away with the record-breaking ball on the sidelines.

"He came to me ... and said if anybody scores the 509, that's what we should do," Demaryius Thomas said. "He said 'Keep the ball away,' like hopscotch or whatever. I was like, 'Cool.'"

Manning broke Brett Favre's all-time touchdown record.

"We were definitely rehearsing it," Emmanuel Sanders said. "But I didn't think we were going to do it. I ended up running up to Demaryius, who had caught the touchdown, of course, and I was like 'Let's do it ... let's just do it.' And we did it.''

"I can't believe they actually did it,'' Manning said. "We sort of joked about it during the week ... I've lost my vertical leap, it's not there anymore, my side-to-side agility is not quite as quick, so it hurt me.

"But that was pretty funny, I enjoyed that and I'll definitely remember a lot of things about [Sunday night], but I'll definitely remember that part of it and the fact they had the guts to go ahead and go through with it.''

Arians: Broncos' Block On Campbell 'Dirtiest Play I've Ever Seen'

Oct 10, 2014 2:58 AM

Calais Campbell injured his knee during the Arizona Cardinals' loss to the Denver Broncos in what was a dirty play.

Julius Thomas was called for an illegal chop block on the play, a 15-yard penalty which negated a touchdown. Ryan Clady worked in tandem with Thomas on the play.

Bruce Arians said Campbell has a sprained MCL and will miss two to four weeks.

"That was the dirtiest play I've seen in 37 years," Bruce Arians said, calling it a "premeditated high-low."

Broncos Release Matt Prater

Oct 8, 2014 4:10 AM

Matt Prater has been released by the Denver Broncos.

Prater, who had served three games of a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, was set to be reinstated Monday.

"Any time you make football decisions in an organization, especially [someone] that's been with you for a period of time like Matt, it's always difficult,'' Broncos coach John Fox said following Friday's practice. "It's always a football decision, what's going to give us the best chance, in our opinion. We wish Matt nothing but the best moving forward.''

Brandon McManus will remain as the Broncos' kicker.
