Jerry Jones: Dak Prescott Will Start Against Browns

Nov 1, 2016 9:48 AM

Dak Prescott will start for the Dallas Cowboys against the Cleveland Browns next week.

"Tony's [Romo] not ready to play," Jerry Jones said after the Cowboys defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in overtime on Sunday night.

Tony Romo has had one limited practice since suffering a compression fracture in his back Aug. 25 against the Seattle Seahawks, throwing in the scout-team 7-on-7 drills.

Romo should do more in practice this week.

"That's subject to Jason Garrett making the decision, but as far as the health issue is concerned of Tony, there's no need in pushing it that fast," Jones said of a possible return to game action this week. "That's more about Tony's health than any of the other issues we want to all give."

Jordan Matthews: Wentz-Prescott Could Be New Manning-Brady

Oct 27, 2016 7:51 AM

When the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys face off on Sunday night, rookie quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott will be on center stage.

Jordan Matthews believes Wentz-Prescott could be the NFL's next great rivalry.

"Peyton [Manning] and [Tom] Brady, that's an extremely high honor to be mentioned with those guys," Matthews said.

"I have spoken highly of Carson and know that he could be named with those guys just with more years of playing. And I have a high respect for Dak, too. … You're talking about a guy who is a poised quarterback, he knows what it means to be a leader, he knows what it means to be game-planned for. And I feel like Carson is the same way. The thing I love about Carson is he has that same ability but he also has a chip on his shoulder. So you're talking about two guys that could potentially be like a Brady and Peyton rivalry. The only difference is, you're going to get this two times a year, and possibly playoffs."

Tony Romo Throws At Practice For First Time Since Injury

Oct 26, 2016 4:29 PM

Tony Romo threw passes without any issues during Wednesday's practice for the first time since suffering a compression fracture in his back on Aug. 25th.

Romo's throws were anywhere from 5-25 yards in length and had good velocity.

Dak Prescott has played well in place of Romo and will start on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Cowboys have not stated what they will do at the position once Romo is completely healthy.

Cowboys Have No Timetable To Decide On Dak Prescott, Tony Romo

Oct 20, 2016 8:04 AM

The Dallas Cowboys are off this week and Jerry Jones says the team has no timetable to decide on whether Dak Prescott or Tony Romo will be their quarterback going forward.

"I don't have any idea, no one does as to what the situation will be a game or games down the road," Jones said. "We don't have any idea. The main thing is we're all looking at the same music and we all feel the same thing. The team is positive with each other. We feel like we can make mistakes and overcome them. Everybody feels good about all of what we're doing."

Romo is due to return from a compression fracture in his back, but the rookie Prescott has played very well and the Cowboys at 5-1. In six games, Prescott has completed 68.7 percent of his passes for a 103.9 rating and seven touchdowns against one interception.

In 14 seasons, Romo has bested that completion percentage just twice and has a 2.1:1 touchdown to interception ratio overall.

Dez Bryant: Ezekiel Elliott Will Surpass 2,000 Yards

Oct 18, 2016 8:21 AM

Ezekiel Elliott is on pace to set an NFL rookie record for rushing yards, but teammate Dez Bryant has loftier goals.

Elliott has four straight games with 130-plus yards, the first rookie ever to do so. He leads the league with 703 yards and has scored five times.

He's on pace for 1,875 yards, but Bryant is looking higher.

"Yeah, I believe it. Two thousand or more. That's my prediction," Bryant said.

Only seven players have surpassed 2,000 yards in NFL history with Adrian Peterson (2012) the most recent.

Ezekiel Elliott On Record Pace Through Six Games

Oct 17, 2016 8:35 AM

Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 157 yards against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, allowing him to end the day as the NFL's leading rusher with 703 yards.

Elliott's 703 yards are the second-most ever by a rookie through six games behind only Eric Dickerson. The Dallas Cowboy is on pace to finish the season with 1,875 yards, which would give him more total yards than Dickerson had in 1983.

DeMarco Murray Thought He'd Be Traded Back To Cowboys

Oct 16, 2016 11:09 AM

DeMarco Murray was "95 percent sure" he was set to be traded back to the Dallas Cowboys by the Philadelphia Eagles before he was eventually moved to the Tennessee Titans.

"It was like 95 percent sure I was going to come back there," Murray told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram this week. "I have a lot of respect for those guys —€" the Jones family, Will [McClay], Coach [Jason] Garrett obviously and [Tony] Romo and Wit [Jason Witten], all those guys. I still consider them a great franchise, and they're great friends of mine.

"I was very close to going back there. There were some things that fell through and just didn't happen. I think everything happens for a reason. I'm here [in Tennessee], and I'm supposed to be here. They've got a pretty good young back over there as well."

The Eagles ultimately preferred trading Murray outside of the division.

Murray led the NFL with 1,845 yards and 13 TDs for the Cowboys in 2014 and has rebounded this season after a frustrating 2015 with the Eagles.

The Cowboys drafted Ezekiel Elliott after the trade for Murray fell through.

Roger Staubach: Dak Prescott 'Wonderful QB For The Future'

Oct 14, 2016 1:23 PM

Roger Staubach hasn't met Dak Prescott, but he believes that young Dallas Cowboys quarterback will be wonderful for the future.

The legendary quarterback appreciates the rookie's elusiveness and his split-second choices that have contributed to his interception-free start.

"You can tell that the players respect the heck out of him and that he's already a leader," Staubach said. "He is amazing at making decisions when ... there's a difficult situation there and he needs to dump the ball off. He also can throw to lead a receiver. Sometimes he throws the ball a little low, and I don't know if it's intentional, but he's right on the money in allowing his receivers to make tough catches.

"He's got something ticking up there, and you know you've got to get rid of the ball pretty quick in the NFL. He makes good, solid decisions. I think we've got a wonderful quarterback for the future."

Should Prescott remain the starter when Tony Romo remains healthy?

"It's still all about winning football games," Staubach said, "and Tony deserves to get back in there eventually. We have a great one in Tony and a future great one in Dak. If I was in the atmosphere of the Cowboy locker room, which Jason [Garrett] will be, he'll get a sense of what's the right thing for the team. They all like Tony, who's a heck of a football player, but they also love Dak right now and what he's doing. He's got the team behind him.

"If they beat Green Bay, there will be a lot of controversy to it. I'm a Romo fan, too, so I don't want to say anything against Tony. But the way Dak's going, it's all about the team and what's the best feel for the team at this particular point."
