Morris Claiborne Weighed Just 150 Pounds Following Surgeries

Jul 1, 2015 2:09 AM

Morris Claiborne lost 30 to 40 pounds after undergoing multiple surgeries last year.

Claiborne not only underwent patellar tendon surgery on his left knee in early October, but also had December surgery on his right knee to prevent potential problems with the patellar tendon.

"Man, I got all the way down to 150," Claiborne said. "I'm all the way back to 172 now, and I'm getting closer to my playing weight of 180."

Dez Bryant, Cowboys Renew Contract Talks

Jul 1, 2015 2:09 AM

Dez Bryant and the Dallas Cowboys have resumed talks on a new contract.

On Friday, the Cowboys had their first face-to-face meeting with Bryant's agents Tom Condon and Roc Nation's Kim Miale in nearly four months.

Bryant has threatened to sit out the season opener, while executive vice president Stephen Jones acknowledged two weeks ago there is "just too big of a divide" in contract demands.

Condon recently accused the Cowboys of taking a "year-by-year" approach in regards to Bryant's status within the franchise.

Dez Bryant: $13M Is Cool But Where's My Security

Jun 18, 2015 1:11 PM

Dez Bryant took his stance on the current contract dispute between he and the Dallas Cowboys public on Wednesday.

"Everybody voicing opinions..13 mil is cool but where is my security? I'll wait ...5 years without complaining. So how am I selfish? #family1," wrote Bryant on Twitter.

Bryant was placed with the franchise tag, a one-year tender which would pay him $12.823 million. He has yet to sign the deal and is sitting out the team's mandatory minicamp.

"Right now there's just too big of a divide," Cowboys executive Vice President Stephen Jones told SiriusXM NFL Radio of the contract talks on Tuesday.

Brandon Weeden Has Made 'Big Jump This Year'

Jun 15, 2015 1:49 PM

The Dallas Cowboys are encouraged by the development of Brandon Weeden.

In his second season with the Cowboys, Weeden has gone from trying to learn the offense to understanding the hows and whys of the offense used by Scott Linehan.

“I think he’s probably the most improved player,” quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson said. “He just has a great understanding of the concepts, of the protections, calling the plays, all those things. He’s made a big jump this year.”

Weeden performed well enough last year to cut Kyle Orton despite Tony Romo coming back from back surgery.

“It’s just a comfort thing,” Weeden said. “Now I can really fine tune what we’re doing because I’m not having to go home to study for three hours just learning plays and calling plays and doing all that. Now I can out and fine tine what I want to do, work on reading defenses, work on understanding everything versus just making sure I don’t screw the first part of it up. I appreciate that from Sticks [Wilson]. That’s a good comment because I busted my ass. I’ve worked so hard this offseason, training wise, throwing wise to put myself in position.”

Dez Bryant said he is anticipating possibly missing regular season games due to his contract dispute with the Dallas Cowboys.

"This is not a rumor," Bryant confirmed to Silver. "It's legit."

There are just five weeks remaining before the July 15 deadline for franchise players to sign new contracts.

Cowboys Use Drone, Virtual Reality During Practices

Jun 8, 2015 12:19 PM

The Dallas Cowboys will use a drone to film part of their practices, as well as use virtual reality to help their players improve in 2015.

A source confirmed the Cowboys have struck a deal with StriVR Labs, a virtual reality company with software that allows players a 3-D look at live action from practice.

The Cowboys have added a new room for the system at their Valley Ranch facility. During the last two weeks the Cowboys have had a stationary camera behind the line of scrimmage to give a 360-degree view of the plays, complete with sound.

Quarterbacks, as well as linebackers or safeties, will wear a virtual-reality headset that will adjust the video in the room to what the player is looking at and allow the coaches to see if they are making the proper reads or checks during each play. It will also help the backups get views of plays they would not have experienced.

Sean Lee Wants To Prove He's Back From ACL

Jun 4, 2015 1:55 PM

Sean Lee wants to prove he's healthy a year after tearing his ACL for the second time in six years.

“I played on pretty torn ACL for a couple of years,” Lee said. “That’s what the main injury was with me coming in. The right [knee] was fine. But when I came back for that fifth year at Penn State, the third game in, I partially tore it. I took off about three games and then played with it. It would shift every once in a while. The further I got away from the injury, the less it would shift. It happened maybe a couple of times a season to maybe once or twice a season. I thought it would be fine and then when I slipped last year the knee went on me. It was a matter of time.”

Lee has been a highly productive linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys, but he's struggled to remain healthy.

Garrett: Joseph Randle Needs To Focus On Doing, Not Talking

Jun 3, 2015 7:14 PM

Joseph Randle’s comment that DeMarco Murray “left a lot of meat on the bone’’ in his record breaking season with the Dallas Cowboys Cowboys created controversy.

“We addressed that with Joe really immediately,’’ Garrett said. “I think sometimes comments like that get taken out of context or they are not really intended the way they come out.

“I think Joe has great respect for DeMarco as we all do. Joe did a good job with his opportunities. Joe and everyone else on our football team, we have to focus on what we do, not with what we say and I think he understands that.’’ Murray, now in Philadelphia, took the comment in stride, saying he hopes Randle “can taste some of that meat’’ this season.
