Murray Asked Romo To Take Pay Cut

Apr 1, 2015 1:22 PM

Tony Romo was asked by DeMarco Murray if he was willing to take a pay cut for him to re-sign with the Dallas Cowboys.

"DeMarco ended up asking me, 'Why don't you take a pay cut?' I said, 'I will. I would take a pay cut to go do this,'" Romo said. "I was like, 'They're going to restructure me.' That's the same thing in some ways, just for the salary cap purposes. He was like, 'OK, now we're back to being friends again.' I would take $5 million less if meant getting him back.

"He knew that. It was just funny how he was literally worried about that part of it for a week. I'm like, 'That's not the reason.' I'm like, 'Obviously I'll restructure. I would even take a pay cut.' He was like, 'OK, we can be friends again.' It's amazing what you think about in those moments."

Murray eventually signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.

DeMarco Murray Expects To Sign With Eagles

Mar 12, 2015 1:49 PM

DeMarco Murray is flying to meet with the Philadelphia Eagles with the intention of signing with the team.

Murray personally reached out to Chip Kelly to express his desire to play in his spread offense with Sam Bradford. Murray and Bradford were teammates and roommates at Oklahoman.

The obstacle for Murray signing with the Eagles still would be money, a source said, as Kelly has made it publicly and privately clear the team will be financially prudent in their personnel decisions.

The Eagles are the most appealing destination for Murray due to their position as a contender.

The Dallas Cowboys are still monitoring Murray's market in free agency and would like to re-sign him, although Dallas has had numerous chances to re-sign Murray throughout the year and now.

Murray would consider a final, last-minute offer from the Cowboys, a source told Schefter, but he's going to Philadelphia with the intent to sign.

Update: The Cowboys are now calling around the NFL in an attempt to find another running back expecting Murray to sign with the Eagles.

DeMarco Murray Hasn't Heard From Cowboys

Mar 10, 2015 11:00 AM

DeMarco Murray hasn't received a call from the Dallas Cowboys since last week as he begins his free agency.

Murray deleted all references to the Cowboys in his Twitter bio.

Although Murray will be one of the most coveted running backs on the open market, a league source told ESPN last week that the two-time Pro Bowler likely would return to the Cowboys if their offer was financially similar to those he receives from other teams.

That report, however, was published prior to this extended period of silence between Murray and the Cowboys.

Murray led the NFL in rushing with 1,845 yards on 392 carries in 2014.
