Reports: Manziel Indicted On Misdemeanor Assault Charge

Apr 25, 2016 11:56 AM

Embattled quarterback Johnny Manziel has been indicted by a Dallas County grand jury on a misdemeanor assault charge, ABC News 8 in Dallas and CBS Radio in Dallas reported, citing sources.

The formal announcement is expected to come Monday. Manziel's case was heard by a grand jury on Thursday.

Manziel, a former Cleveland Browns quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner at Texas A&M, is accused of hitting his ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley so hard that she temporarily lost hearing in one ear.

Sashi Brown: Browns 'Like Volume', Could Move Down Further

Apr 21, 2016 11:37 AM

The Cleveland Browns are not ruling out moving further down in the first round.

The Browns traded the No. 2 pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for the No. 8 pick, which included a collection of additional picks.

Brown said that the Browns “like volume,” and that instead of betting on one player, “We’re betting on four.”

Brown said that the team hasn’t “solved the QB position by any stretch” by signing Robert Griffin III, and that Griffin has to “earn” the spot.

Eagles Trade Up To No. 2 With Browns

Apr 21, 2016 11:35 AM

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to trade up to the second overall pick in a deal with the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns will move back to No. 8 overall while also acquiring the Eagles' third rounder and fourth rounder this season along with their 2017 first round pick and their 2018 second round pick.

The Eagles acquire the Browns' 2017 fourth round pick in addition to the second overall pick this season.

Philadelphia will presumably pick whichever quarterback the Los Angeles Rams don't select at No. 1 between Jared Goff and Carson Wentz.

The Eagles signed Sam Bradford to a two-year, $36 million deal on March 1st and also have Chase Daniel on a three-year, $21 million deal.

Browns Holding Talks Involving 2nd Overall Pick

Apr 19, 2016 2:09 PM

The Cleveland Browns have been in discussions with other teams about trading the second overall pick.

"There is interest in the pick," said a source.

The Browns have been linked to Jared Goff and Carson Wentz but the analytics-driven front office is seriously considering trading out of the No. 2 slot to acquire multiple picks.

Sashi Brown, Cleveland's new director of football operations, acknowledged last week that "there's been some interest" from other teams in the No. 2 pick, although he noted that those inquiries were preliminary.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been identified as a possible team interested in trading up.

Drew Rosenhaus Drops Johnny Manziel As Client

Apr 14, 2016 10:40 AM

Johnny Manziel will be dropped by Drew Rosenhaus as a client and will only be taken back if he enters treatment for his issues.

“I have terminated the standard representation with Johnny Manziel in the hopes of helping him get the treatment I believe he needs,” Rosenhaus told Schefter. “I have informed him that if he takes the immediate steps I have outlined for him that I will rescind the termination and continue to represent him. Otherwise the termination will become permanent. There is a five-day window for me to rescind the termination. I’m hoping he takes the necessary steps to get his life back on track.”

Rosenhaus replaced Erik Burkhardt as his agent in January.

The Browns officially released Manziel in early March, a move delayed only for salary cap reasons.

Manziel was accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend on January 30th.

NFL Denies Josh Gordon's Petition For Reinstatement

Apr 14, 2016 10:40 AM

The NFL has denied Josh Gordon's petition for reinstatement from his indefinite drug ban.

Gordon can apply for reinstatement again later in the year.

The league will need to see a serious commitment from Gordon to his program, including a possible stint in an inpatient rehab facility.

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports reported that Gordon had failed another league-administered drug test.

The amount of marijuana in the samples was less than the 35 nanograms required for a positive test, according to the report. But a diluted sample that contains traces of a banned substance constitutes a positive test for a player in Stage Two or Stage Three of the program. Gordon is in Stage Three.

Josh Gordon Failed NFL-Administered Drug Test

Apr 14, 2016 10:40 AM

Josh Gordon failed an NFL-administered drug test last month.

Gordon tested positive for marijuana and dilute, according to a source informed of the results of the test. The source added that both the "A" and "B" samples collected were positive for marijuana and dilute. Though the level of marijuana was below the 35 nanograms per milliliter required for a positive test, the diluted sample is considered a positive test.

Gordon applied for reinstatement in February and, if all went well, could have been reinstated within 60 days.

Hue Jackson Could Be 'Bad Fit' For Browns' Analytics Staff

Apr 14, 2016 10:40 AM

Hue Jackson is described by a former NFL executive as "a very bad fit" for the type of approach Paul DePodesta wants to take for the Cleveland Browns.

Jackson's coaching staff also may not be on board with the analytics department's decision making.

“It’s not just Hue Jackson,” the former executive said. “When data overrides gut, the majority of his coaching staff will all be there screaming, ‘What the f— are these computer guys doing? They don’t understand football, they don’t understand the locker room. They’re killing us.'”

Jackson has said there’s a process and a plan with Cleveland and he’s on board with it.

Robert Griffin III: No Pressure, No Diamonds

Apr 14, 2016 10:40 AM

Robert Griffin III was introduced to the media on Wednesday as a member of the Cleveland Browns.

"No pressure, no diamonds," said Griffin as he walked away from the podium.

"I know the history, a little bit, of Cleveland," Griffin said. "And guys sometimes don't want to come here. I wanted to come here. I wanted to be here, and I wanted them to know that."

Griffin acknowledged that not playing a down for Washington last season was mentally taxing.
