Hue Jackson Completely Believes In Browns' Experimental Front Office

Mar 28, 2016 1:56 PM

Hue Jackson has bought into the Cleveland Browns' experimental methods.

This offseason, the Browns hired Paul DePodesta has their chief strategy officer.

“I wouldn’t trade our process for any I’ve seen since I’ve been in the NFL,” Jackson said Saturday from Ohio. “I don’t do anything without us all talking things through. They don’t do anything with talking to me. Paul’s input was very valuable in the process of signing Robert. He was good about the psyche of an athlete coming back from injuries or adversity, and about the fact that it’s a people business. We all talk football, football, football, but this is a people business foremost. And all of us in the process here are joined at the hip.”

Jets, Browns No Longer Interested In Colin Kaepernick

Mar 27, 2016 1:44 PM

The New York Jets and Cleveland Browns are no longer pursuing Colin Kaepernick.

The Browns signed Robert Griffin III this week.

Kaepernick is left with the Denver Broncos as his only remaining logical suitor.

Kaepernick's $11.9 million salary becomes fully guaranteed on April 1 and the San Francisco 49ers do not plan to cut him before that date.

The Broncos would have to trade for Kaepernick and the 49ers have so far been unwilling to deal him without a substantial return.

The Cleveland Browns and Robert Griffin III have agreed upon a two year deal. The Browns have been the only franchise to show serious interest in Griffin.

Griffin is a free agent after he was released by Washington.

Griffin was the 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year and has since struggled with injuries. Griffin led Washington to win the NFC East while throwing for 3,200 yards with 20 touchdowns against five interceptions along with 815 yards rushing and seven touchdowns.

Griffin didn't play at all in 2015 as Jay Gruden went with Kirk Cousins as his starter.

Johnny Manziel Hires Drew Rosenhaus As Agent

Mar 20, 2016 12:52 AM

Johnny Manziel has hired Drew Rosenhaus as his agent.

Manziel has struggled on the field to establish himself as an NFL quarterback, while he's had a number of serious issues in his personal life.

The Cleveland Browns cut Manziel this offseason.

Erik Burkhardt, Manziel's former agent, dropped the QB as a client after the season. He said in a statement: "It has become painfully obvious that [Manziel's] future rests solely in his own hands. His family and I have gone to great lengths to outline the steps we feel he must take to get his life in order. Accountability is the foundation of any relationship, and without it, the function of my work is counterproductive."

Paul DePodesta Overhead 'Trash Talk' About Him At Combine

Mar 15, 2016 2:10 PM

Speaking Friday at MIT's Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, Paul DePodesta said he overheard NFL team officials ripping him and the Browns at the airport after last month's Scouting Combine.

DePodesta was hired by the Cleveland Browns this offseason, coming to the NFL from Major League Baseball.

"I was standing right in front of them in line and I could hear them in back of me and they were talking trash about me and the Cleveland Browns," DePodesta said Friday at MIT's Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, per Baseball America. "I said, 'All right, this is like 17 years ago in Oakland all over again.' That's part of the fun."

DePodesta expected his move to football to be met by skepticism.

"When I was going to the Browns," DePodesta said, "I had met with the ownership, Jimmy and Dee Haslam, and they asked me, 'What do you want out of an owner?' And I said, 'Well, I'll tell you what I don't want.' I said, 'If you ever take your kids to an amusement park at Disneyland or whatever, they beg you to go on the big daddy roller coaster. They beg you. You say, 'Are you sure?' They say, 'Absolutely, I want to go on this thing.' So you wait in line for 45 minutes, it takes up a good chunk of your day, you finally get to the front of the line, they eyeball it, and they say, 'Uh, I'm not getting on that thing. Not at all.'
