Browns Hint Josh Gordon Will Be Welcomed Back

Feb 25, 2016 12:26 PM

The Cleveland Browns have hinted Josh Gordon will be welcomed back to the franchise if he's reinstated by Roger Goodell.

Gordon was suspended for the entire 2015 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.

Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said he and coach Hue Jackson would need to have a discussion with Gordon.

"As I understand as it's been reported back to me by people who have been in contact with Josh and seen him throughout the offseason, including his representatives, Josh is taking it seriously and he's learned from his mistakes," Brown said Thursday at the NFL combine. "He's serious about wanting to be a pro and be one of the best wide receivers in the game.

"And so I think if he's done all the things to put himself in that position and clean up some of the mistakes of the past, then certainly we would welcome him back."

Polian: Peyton Manning Qualified To Immediately Become NFL GM

Feb 10, 2016 8:31 PM

Bill Polian believes Peyton Manning is qualified to immediately become an NFL general manager.

"I believe he could very quickly fill the role that John Elway fills with the Broncos," Hall of Fame general manager Bill Polian told SiriusXM NFL Radio, per coachingsearch.com. "The reason I say that is, during our 14 years together in Indianapolis, he would often discuss with me prospects coming out in the draft, SEC players he'd seen, players he'd seen in other parts of the country. He pays close attention to the rosters of the other players in the league, with specific attention to the AFC."

Said Polian: "He knew the strengths and weaknesses of every player on every defense in the AFC and many on offense, because he met them and got to know them at the Pro Bowl and soaked up information. He is a football nerd, as am I. He's more than prepared to do that job."

The Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns have been linked to working with Manning once he retires.

Browns Deny Lying About Manziel Concussion To Cover Up His Drinking

Feb 9, 2016 4:12 PM

The Cleveland Browns denied a report that they "lied" about Johnny Manziel experiencing concussion symptoms before the season finale to cover up for him showing up drunk to a team meeting.

One well-placed Browns source who had contact with Manziel that day told ESPN's Adam Schefter that he "was heavily hung over on something."

An independent neurologist diagnosed Manziel with a concussion four days before the 2015 season finale, the Browns said Tuesday.

The statement from the Browns came in response to an NFL Network report that the Browns "lied" about the concussion to protect Manziel because he was drinking heavily and had showed up for a team meeting inebriated.

"Johnny Manziel came to our facility on the morning of December 30th and complained of concussion symptoms," a statement released by the team said. "He was tested by an independent neurologist and entered the league's concussion protocol. He remained in the protocol until January 12th after being cleared by the independent neurologist."

Johnny Manziel Allegedly Struck Ex-Girlfriend Multiple Times

Feb 5, 2016 12:30 PM

Colleen Crowley told Fort Worth Police that Johnny Manziel struck her several times and seemed to be on drugs.

Police were called to investigate the incident last week.

Crowley has also asked for an order of protection from Manziel.

Crowley jumped out of a car to avoid Manziel but he followed her as she attempted to hid in nearby bushes.

“He grabbed me by my hair and threw me back into the car and got back in himself,” Crowley reportedly told police. “He hit me with his open hand on my left ear for jumping out of the car. I realized immediately that I could not hear out of that ear, and I still cannot today, two days later.”

Crowley told police she feared Manziel had been on drugs and that he’d threatened “to kill us both.”

Manziel will be released by the Cleveland Browns in March when the 2016 NFL calendar year begins.

Manziel pressed her head against a window in October and the NFL investigated and did not discipline him.

Browns To Cut Johnny Manziel

Feb 2, 2016 8:24 PM

Johnny Manziel will be cut by the Cleveland Browns when the NFL's 2016 calendar begins on March 9th.

The Browns need to wait until the new calendar begins because they have no cap space to absorb his cap hit.

Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown released a statement Tuesday regarding Manziel's most recent off-field incident.

"We've been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field," Brown said. "Johnny's continual involvement in incidents that run counter to those expectations undermines the hard work of his teammates and the reputation of our organization. His status with our team will be addressed when permitted by league rules. We will have no further comment at this time."

Manziel is being investigated for an alleged incident with a 23-year-old female, the Fort Worth Police Department said in a statement on Saturday.

The complainant stated that she was involved in a disturbance with Manziel, her ex-boyfriend, earlier in the evening in Dallas.

Manziel has had a number of off the field incidents during his tenure with the Browns.
