Feb 28, 2015 5:10 PM

Josh McCown has agreed upon a three-year deal with the Cleveland Browns.

By signing McCown, the Browns almost certainly won't bring back Brian Hoyer.

Ray Farmer Apologizes For In-Game Texts To Browns' Staffers

Feb 19, 2015 1:28 PM

Ray Farmer has apologized for texting Cleveland Browns' staffers during a game.

That type of communication is againt NFL rules.

The league recently interviewed Farmer, who texted at least one coach during a game. The results of the probe could result in a fine, a suspension for Farmer and the loss of at least one draft pick.

"I know I messed up," Farmer said Thursday from the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. "People understand what the rules are. In my case, I would tell you that it's not an excuse, but sometimes your emotions get the best of you."

Mike Pettine said Wednesday he was disappointed that Farmer sent the text but stressed the two can still work well together.

NFLPA Files Grievance For Josh Gordon's One-Game Suspension

Feb 17, 2015 7:20 PM

The NFL Players Association filed a non-injury grievance against the Cleveland Browns for the one-game suspension they imposed on wide receiver Josh Gordon at the end of this past season.

The suspension could prevent Gordon from getting an accrued season and delay him from reaching free agency. The Browns suspended Gordon for the last game of the season, which meant he was active for only five games.

The NFLPA plans to argue, among other things, that Gordon missing a special teams meeting did not constitute grounds for a one-game suspension.

Browns Like Marcus Mariota

Feb 11, 2015 11:23 AM

The Cleveland Browns could select a quarterback in the first round for the second straight draft.

Ray Farmer has "shown a liking" for Marcus Mariota.

Mariota has been preparing for the draft since mid-January with Kevin O'Connell, who was recently named to Mike Pettine's staff as quarterbacks coach. O'Connell hasn't officially joined the team yet, allowing him to finish his prior commitments, including his work with Mariota.

The Browns drafted Johnny Manziel last season.

Cleveland owns the No. 12 and No. 19 overall picks, which could allow them to move up to select Mariota.

NFL's Text Probe Could Impact Free Agency Of Brian Hoyer

Feb 9, 2015 11:25 AM

The NFL's investigation into the Cleveland Browns' alleged texting from the front office to the coaching staff may impact the free agency decision of Brian Hoyer.

"To read the stories and see what's going on, I'm just as interested as you guys are to see where that comes out," Hoyer said Saturday after making an appearance at the Home and Garden Show in Cleveland. "Especially because when you read it has to do with the quarterback situation and play calling. That's something that could affect how I feel about it.

"For me, I'm looking forward to see what comes out of that."

Hoyer is considering all options.

"And obviously, Cleveland has a big place in my heart," he said.

Josh Gordon Suspended At Least One Season By NFL

Feb 4, 2015 10:43 AM

Josh Gordon has been suspended for the entire 2015 season by the NFL for violating the league's Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Media's Albert Breer reported the impending suspension last week, after Gordon had tested positive for alcohol. The suspension begins immediately and is effectively indefinite, as Gordon must apply for reinstatement next February.

"As we have conveyed, we are disappointed to once again be at this point with Josh," general manager Ray Farmer said in a statement released by the team. "Throughout his career we have tried to assist him in getting support like we would with any member of our organization. Unfortunately our efforts have not resonated with him.

"It is evident that Josh needs to make some substantial strides to live up to the positive culture we are trying to build this football team upon. Our hope is that this suspension affords Josh the opportunity to gain some clarity in determining what he wants to accomplish moving forward and if he wants a career in the National Football League. We will have no further comment on Josh as he will not be permitted in our facility for the duration of his suspension."

Johnny Manziel Enters Rehab

Feb 3, 2015 11:01 AM

Johnny Manziel entered treatment on Wednesday for undisclosed reasons.

"Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate and he thought the offseason was the right time to take this step," adviser Brad Beckworth said.

"On behalf of Johnny and his family, we're asking for privacy until he rejoins the team in Cleveland."

Browns general manager Ray Farmer said in a statement that they support Manziel's decision.

"We respect Johnny's initiative in this decision and will fully support him throughout this process. Our players' health and well-being will always be of the utmost importance to the Cleveland Browns," Farmer said.

"We continually strive to create a supportive environment and provide the appropriate resources, with our foremost focus being on the individual and not just the football player. Johnny's privacy will be respected by us during this very important period and we hope that others will do the same."

According to 20 Cleveland Browns' sources, Manziel's problems run deep.

Manziel showed a lack of commitment and preparation, as well as a continued propensity for nightlife.

"Johnny's his own worst enemy," one source said.
