Johnny Manziel Claims He Tried To Avoid Altercation

Nov 30, 2014 4:19 PM

Johnny Manziel said he did everything he could to escape a “very aggressive” fan before an altercation in the lobby of his apartment building.

Speaking on Friday for the first time since last week's incident, Manziel said the man, identified in a police report as Chris Gonos, was “a very intoxicated, very aggressive person that approached me in the lobby.” Manziel said he went out dinner on Friday night with his mother and roommate and had returned to The 9, a downtown hotel where he has an apartment, when he was confronted by “what has been made out to be a fan.”

Manziel did not name Gonos but said the man was “putting his hands on me, kind of toying with me.”

Manziel said he and his roommate tried to coax the man into another elevator and “the guy got very aggressive” before security was able to intervene.

Josh Gordon Felt Like Browns Kept Distance During Suspension

Dec 17, 2014 4:36 AM

Josh Gordon felt that some members of the Cleveland Browns' organization kept their distance from him during his 10-game suspension.

"The lowest point of all this I think was the disassociation from a lot of friends you thought were close or you thought you were kind of cool with really not checking on you anymore, [not] hitting you up anymore, [not] wanting to hang out," Gordon told former teammate Nate Burleson, who spent training camp with the Browns. "As far as even people in here [with the Browns]. I don't want to throw names around, but I can see it. I'm definitely really observant, so I see how people might just be more standoffish as they were before."

Gordon was originally suspended for the entire season, but it was reduced after the union agreed upon new drug testing policies with the NFL.

Bills To Host Browns In Buffalo For Week 13

Nov 25, 2014 6:01 PM

The Buffalo Bills will host the Cleveland Browns in Week 13 this Sunday despite damage to the stadium.

From a structural perspective, the stadium is still sound and can host guests this weekend. The team can also use its practice facility despite some minor damage and doesn't plan on restricting any areas to fans at Ralph Wilson on Sunday.

Johnny Manziel's Entourage Involved In Fight

Nov 25, 2014 1:09 PM

A Cleveland Browns fan sparked a massive fight at The 9 when he approached Johnny Manziel and his "entourage" late Friday night, according to a police report obtained today by Scene.

Cleveland police were called to the apartment's lobby at 2:36 a.m. for a report of a "riot" involving 20 men and two security guards.

The alleged victim, 33-year-old Chris Gonos, reported to police that he and his girlfriend spotted Manziel while waiting for an elevator at the high-end apartment complex, where many Cleveland professional athletes live, and professed his love to the rookie quarterback.

Gonos told police he pointed Manziel out to his girlfriend: "That's Johnny Manziel." Then he approached him.

According to the report, "at this time victim stated to the unidentified male, 'I'm the biggest Browns fan ever, I love you, I want to give you a hug.'"

Gonos stepped towards Manziel and was promptly punched in the face, the alleged victim's account to police says, followed by a beat down by Manziel's crew, giving the man a "swollen lip, right eye swollen, red face." A security guard intervened and also was hurt.

Gonos reportedly pled guilty in 2013 in federal court to charges of "conspiracy to structure financial transactions to evade filing currency transaction reports."

Josh Gordon To Play 20-30 Snaps For Browns In Week 12

Dec 8, 2014 5:01 PM

Josh Gordon is expected to get 20 to 30 snaps for the Cleveland Browns as he returns from a 10-game suspension.

Gordon spent the last 11 weeks working out on his own and catching passes from a jugs machine. He could attend team meetings but couldn't participate in on-field team activities.

Gordon averaged 117.6 receiving yards per game last season, which means the Browns inherit a high-performance vehicle at a critical time in the team's playoff push at 6-4.

"I think it makes things easier," Browns offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan said. "It gives you different options."

Josh Gordon 'Going To Tear This League Up'

Nov 27, 2014 9:59 AM

Josh Gordon is optimistic about how he'll quickly be productive coming off his 10-game suspension.

"He told me: 'Starting on practice this Wednesday, I'm going to outwork everybody on the field,'" Burleson said Tuesday on NFL Network's NFL Total Access: "(He said) 'I'm going to try to evoke a pride in Cleveland that can hopefully lead us to the playoffs.' He's excited about coming back."

Gordon caught 87 balls for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns last season in 14 games.

"He said, 'I plan to lose 10 to 15 pounds and when I come back I'm going to tear this league up,'" Burleson said. "Now, this offense is different; it's not the same offense as last year. So, they're not going to be running and gunning, throwing the ball up the sideline, but definitely look for them to get Josh involved early, kind of to get his rhythm back."

Browns Release Ben Tate

Dec 3, 2014 6:55 AM

The Cleveland Browns have waived Ben Tate.

Tate had just two carries for minus-9 yards in the Browns' Week 11 loss.

Tate was complaining earlier in the week about his carries in the Browns' three-running back rotation with Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell.

A team source told ESPN's Bob Holtzman that the move was primarily a football decision. The Browns are pleased with how West and Crowell, both rookies, are playing and want special-teams production from their third running back, which Tate didn't provide.

Texans, Titans Interested In Brian Hoyer

Dec 5, 2014 11:06 AM

The Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans have interest in Brian Hoyer.

Hoyer will be a free agent this offseason and the Cleveland Browns have been in wait-and-see mode on his long-term future.

The Browns drafted Johnny Manziel in the first round, but Hoyer has clearly been the better quarterback this season.

Browns Lose Phil Taylor For Remainder Of Season

Nov 16, 2014 1:35 AM

The Cleveland Browns have placed Phil Taylor on injured reserve.

Taylor will need surgery for an undisclosed problem with his right knee, which he suffered during the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against Cincinnati. He had surgery on the right knee earlier this season and missed four games, but coach Mike Pettine said the two injuries are not related.

Taylor is a former first round pick on the defensive line.

Pettine Understands Ben Tate's Frustrations With Carries

Nov 15, 2014 2:06 PM

Mike Pettine is empathetic to Ben Tate's frustrations on being lower than Terrence West and Isaiah Crowell on the Cleveland Browns' depth chart at running back.

The Browns have used all three backs heavily this season.

“There will be times when we have to choose as a staff what we feel is best for the team, over what the individual feels is best for him — and this is an example of that,” Pettine said, via the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram. “Ben is a guy that wants the ball, wants to be out there, wants to be the guy. His reaction is understandable after we started Terrance over him and had the results that we had.”
