Callahan Likely To Leave Cowboys If Linehan Hired

The Dallas Cowboys are discussing hiring Scott Linehan to become their playcaller on offense, which would be problematic with Bill Callahan already on the staff as offensive coordinator.

Callahan is under contract for the 2014 season.

Callahan could become offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns if Linehan is hired.

Mike Pettine Nearly Withdrew From Browns' Consideration

Mike Pettine nearly withdrew his name for consideration from the Cleveland Browns' vacancy.

Pettine was hired by the Browns as head coach on Thursday.

"That was starting to wear on me these last couple of days," Pettine told WGR-AM in Buffalo. "I talked to (coach) Doug (Marrone) and it was getting to the point where I'd say, 'Hey, if this goes on much longer I need to pull out because it's just not fair to the Bills.'"

Pettine has tried to distance himself from his mentor Rex Ryan.

Pettine was defensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills.

Dan Quinn had remained under consideration for the job.

Pettine met three times with the Browns during the interview process.

Pettine's mentor in the NFL has been Rex Ryan during their time together with the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets.

Gase is offensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos.

The Browns are searching for a replacement for Rob Chudzinski and are the only team that has yet to hire a head coach.
