Bengals Become 3rd Team Since '90 To Have Both OC, DC Become HCs

Nov 27, 2014 8:55 AM

The Cincinnati Bengals are the third NFL team since 1990 to have both coordinators take jobs as head coach.

Mike Zimmer was hired by the Minnesota Vikings, while Jay Gruden is now head coach of the Washington Redskins.

The 2006 San Diego Chargers and 1994 San Francisco 49ers are the other two teams to have both coordinators leave for head coaching positions.

Mike Brown Wanted Bengals To Draft Colin Kaepernick

Oct 19, 2014 2:14 AM

Mike Brown, owner and de facto general manager of the Cincinnati Bengals, wanted the club to draft Colin Kaepernick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

The Bengals selected A.J. Green in the first round and new offensive coordinator Jay Gruden was in favor of Andy Dalton. Dalton ran a similar offense at TCU.

Both players remained on the board in the second round when the Bengals picked.

“I like this guy,” Brown said of Kaepernick. “He has unusual mobility.”

“I want Dalton,” Gruden said. “He fits what I want to do.”

“Are you sure?” Brown asked.

Marvin Lewis Backs Andy Dalton As Bengals' Quarterback

Sep 18, 2014 5:59 AM

Andy Dalton has come under criticism for a loss in the first round of the playoffs for the third consecutive season with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Dalton has six interceptions, one touchdown pass and a Total QBR of 17.9 in his playoff career.

"We'll continue to win big games," Marvin Lewis said. "But we're asking a lot out of him. There's no doubt about it.

"I believe in his abilities, I believe in his makeup, I believe in his maturity. And I believe in his ability to let the last play go and move on to the next play. That's probably one of his best attributes of all."

"I've got a lot of confidence in the stuff that Marvin's been telling me. I expect to be here for a long time," Dalton said. "I'm hoping that's the case.

"I've got a good relationship with Marvin. Marvin's been telling me a lot of good stuff. Yeah, it's unfortunate that we lost this game, but we've been able to improve every year I've been here."

Vikings Interested In Interviewing Both Bengals' Coordinators

Jul 25, 2014 3:28 PM

The Minnesota Vikings are interested in interviewing both the offensive and defensive coordinators of the Cincinnati Bengals for their head coaching vacancy.

Jay Gruden and Mike Zimmer are considered two of the best coordinators in the NFL.

Rick Spielman is searching for a replacement for Leslie Frazier.

The Vikings were planning on targeting a young coach with "star power", which would mean Gruden is a more likely fit.
