Bears Sign Joique Bell

Sep 27, 2016 7:39 PM

The Chicago Bears have agreed to sign Joique Bell.

With Jeremy Langford injuring his ankle in Week 3 and expected to miss 3-4 weeks, the Bears need depth at running back.

Bell joins a backfield including rookie Jordan Howard and Ka'Deem Carey, who missed Week 3 with a hamstring injury.

Bell struggled last season with Detroit, rushing 90 times for 311 yards and four touchdowns.

Jay Cutler Not Guaranteed Bears' Starting QB Job When Healthy

Sep 26, 2016 6:42 PM

John Fox would not guarantee that Jay Cutler will be the Chicago Bears' starting quarterback when Cutler receives the necessary medical clearance to return from a right thumb sprain.

"I don't think there are any givens. And that's no indictment on anybody," Fox said when asked directly about Cutler.

"This is a day-to-day, week-to-week, what-have-you-done-for-me-lately league, and so we're just trying to get the best 11 guys out there regardless of the position to where we can play a full 60 minutes and get a victory."

Fox started Brian Hoyer -- 30-of-49 pass attempts for 317 yards and two touchdowns -- in Dallas on Sunday, but Cutler pushed hard behind the scenes to play in that game.

"I mean, a year ago I think he had a hamstring injury in the Arizona game, I think Game 2 here at home," Fox said. "The quote 'reports' was he'd be out six weeks. He came back and was healthy the rest of the season. I believe he missed the Seattle game. Jimmy Clausen started in his place. And then he returned after one week. It's hard to predict. We'll just see and evaluate him every day."

The Chicago Bears have elevated Matt Barkley from the practice squad following Jay Cutler's right thumb sprain.

Barkley joined the Bears after being waived by the Arizona Cardinals this month.

In his career, Barkley has appeared in four games for the Eagles, completing 30 of 50 pass attempts for 300 yards and four interceptions.

Cutler is officially day-to-day, but he conceded that he had trouble gripping the football in Monday's loss.

Jay Cutler Hurts Right Thumb, Set To Undergo Tests

Sep 20, 2016 7:17 PM

Jay Cutler left in the third quarter of Monday night's 29-14 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with an injury to his right thumb and did not return.

Cutler wore a protective cast on his right hand at the postgame news conference. He will undergo further tests Tuesday.

"I'm concerned," he said. "As a quarterback, you need your right thumb."

Cutler said he aggravated the thumb injury earlier in the game and "couldn't really grip the ball," which he said contributed to him to throwing an interception with 36 seconds left in the third quarter.

Connor Barth Signs With Bears

Sep 5, 2016 8:12 PM

Connor Barth has signed with the Chicago Bears.

The Bears cut Robbie Gould on Sunday. Rather than pay a kicker a top-five average salary at his position ($3.75 million), the Bears decided to move on.

Barth spent the preseason with the New Orleans Saints before being cut. Barth appeared in 12 games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015, connecting on 23 of 28 field goals with one missed extra point.

Bears Sign Josh Sitton To Three-Year, $21.75M Deal

Sep 5, 2016 8:11 PM

The Chicago Bears have signed Josh Sitton to a three-year, $21.75 million deal with $10 million in guarantees.

Sitton was released by the Green Bay Packers on Saturday. The development was somewhat surprising since the $6.5 million Sitton was owed by the Packers in 2016 wasn't considered a significant strain on the salary cap.

Sitton is a three-time All-Pro at guard and hasn't missed a start since 2011.

Brandon Marshall Believes TV Work Led Bears To Trade Him

Sep 1, 2016 11:46 AM

Brandon Marshall said in an interview with The MMQB that he believes his in-season television work on Showtime's "Inside the NFL" played a role in the Chicago Bears' decision to trade him to the New York Jets in the 2015 offseason.

"When I sat down with [general manager] Ryan Pace and coach John Fox, we met, and I asked, 'What do you guys think about this?' It was a big topic," Marshall told the website. "And Ryan Pace said, 'Well, we can do that in the offseason.' So I was like, 'Well, what about half the season?' 'No.' 'What about once or twice?' 'No.' 'What about bye week?' 'No, you can do that in the offseason.'

"Right then, I knew I wouldn't be a Bear anymore, because I think that the business of the NFL is growing every single day, and players are being told to stay in a box and just play football, and we're missing out on a lot of opportunities, not only to grow as men and businessmen but to experience different things."

Marshall was traded along with a seventh round pick to the Jets for a fifth rounder.
