Bills Have 'Major Concern' About Sammy Watkins' Foot

Sep 30, 2016 4:28 PM

The Buffalo Bills will be without Sammy Watkins this weekend and Rex Ryan says the team has "major concern" about the receiver's foot.

Watkins is dealing with soreness in his left foot following offseason surgery to repair a broken bone.

"I don't mind doing this every week," Ryan said Friday of keeping open the possibility for Watkins to play. "If Sammy can play, then obviously we want him out there. But if this is something that is hurting this young man in any way, shape or form, then absolutely I don't want him out there."

Watkins has not been available in the locker room or spoken to reporters since Sept. 19, when he said his foot injury was "kind of out of the window," adding, "I know what I'm dealing with; the team knows what I'm dealing with. It's up to me to go out there and play."

NFL, Tom Coughlin's Agent Deny Reported Meeting With Bills Ownership

Sep 28, 2016 5:34 PM

Both the NFL and Tom Coughlin's agent have denied a report that he met with Buffalo Bills owners Terry and Kim Pegula over the weekend.

"This meeting did not happen," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told Pro Football Talk.

"I do confirm that a meeting did not occur," agent Sandy Montag told PFT.

The Bills opted to say nothing, citing a "longstanding practice not to respond to media posts based on rumors."

The team has disappointed in Rex Ryan's second season at 1-2.

Rex Ryan Joins Conference Call, Asks Julian Edelman If He'll Play QB

Sep 28, 2016 6:48 PM

Rex Ryan joined the end of Julian Edelman's conference call with reporters on Wednesday and asked the receiver if he'll play quarterback this weekend.

The Buffalo Bills are set to take on the New England Patriots, who will be without Tom Brady for one more week and could be without Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett due to injury.

"Julian, this is, uh, Walt Patulski from The Buffalo News," Ryan said. "Are you playing quarterback this week?"

"Huh?" Edelman responded.

"Are you playing quarterback this week?" Ryan repeated.

"I'm gonna do whatever the coaches ask me to do," Edelman said, "so if they ask me to go out and get a glass a water to someone on the sideline, I'm gonna do that with a smile on my face if it helps our team win. So you can ask Coach that one."

"All right, Julian, I will, buddy," Rex said.

The Patriots have not indicated who will start Sunday's game at quarterback.

Rex Ryan Doesn't Care Who Plays QB For Patriots In Week 4

Sep 26, 2016 8:21 AM

We don't yet know who will start at quarterback for the New England Patriots against the Buffalo Bills this weekend, but Rex Ryan doesn't sound concerned.

"I can sit back and say I don't care who plays quarterback, because [Tom] Brady ain't," Ryan said. "I don't care who plays quarterback. Steve Grogan can play quarterback. If [Bill] Belichick's playing quarterback, we're coming after him, I promise you that."

Ryan made the comments after Buffalo's 33-18 win over the Arizona Cardinals -- the team's first win of the season.

Tom Brady has one more game left on his four-game suspension. Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) and Jacoby Brissett (thumb), who combined to start the first three games, are uncertain for the Bills game.

Greg Roman Considered Rex Ryan A 'Buffoon'

Sep 17, 2016 5:19 PM

Greg Roman did not enjoy working with Rex Ryan, privately telling at least one person after the 2015 he thought he was a "buffoon." Roman also thought being affiliated with Ryan wasn't going to be good for his career.

Roman was known to have been looking for a job elsewhere last offseason but he ended up remaining as offensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills.

Roman was fired by Ryan after their loss in Week 2.

Ryan went out of his way to say nice things about Roman during a news conference Friday, saying that he "always thought he's a tremendous coach and I still believe that."

Tyrod Taylor: Officials Said I Looked 'Woozy'

Sep 16, 2016 8:59 AM

Officials briefly pulled Tyrod Taylor from Thursday night's Buffalo Bills-New York Jets game after the quarterback showed possible signs of a concussion following a third-quarter sack.

Taylor was evaluated by medical staff on the sideline before being cleared to re-enter the game three plays later.

Rex Ryan said after the game that referee Ed Hochuli made the decision to remove Taylor from the contest. The quarterback appeared frustrated with the decision, throwing up his arms as medical staff walked him to the sideline.

"[They said it was] just protocol. They thought I got hit. They said they thought I was a little woozy on the ground," Taylor said. "You never want to come out in the middle of a series. Especially in a close game, a good game. But it's protocol, so you have to deal with it."

Sammy Watkins 'Wants To Play And Probably Will'

Sep 15, 2016 8:37 AM

Sammy Watkins is listed as questionable for Thursday night's Buffalo Bills-New York Jets game with a foot injury, but he "wants to play and probably will," according a league source.

The Bills listed Watkins as questionable in their injury report Wednesday. The team noted that Watkins was limited in practice for the first time since complaining of soreness in his surgically repaired left foot after Sunday's game.

"I'm doing fine. I'll be fine," Watkins said. "Just was sore after the game. That's expected. Getting prepared for next week."

Rex Ryan Has Lap Band Removed To Support Brother Rob

Sep 13, 2016 3:31 PM

Rex Ryan told the New York Post he had his lap band surgically removed in solidarity with his twin brother, Rob, who required his lap band to be removed following complications with the device.

"I did it a long time ago, so I'm not going to get into those things," Ryan said. "But as somebody pointed out, several times, we won more games when I was heavier, so I'll do anything for the squad."

Rex Ryan told ESPN last month that he has gained 30 pounds since he hired Rob to his coaching staff as assistant head coach/defense in January.
