Bills Unlikely To Relocate To Los Angeles

Dec 12, 2014 7:54 PM

The NFL hasn't had a home in Los Angeles for nearly two decades and the Buffalo Bills are available following the passing of Ralph Wilson.

“I’ve finally, personally come to a conclusion,” Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard Parks said. “I have to resign myself to the fact the NFL is not coming.

“After you put 10 years into something with nothing in return ... If this was a marriage, you’d be divorced.”

“When you factor in moving costs and what it will take to construct a stadium,” said Hall of Fame defensive end Howie Long, “the price of getting Los Angeles would be very difficult.”

Long played for the Los Angeles Raiders.

“It’s sounding more and more like we’ll have a team in London before we do in L.A.,” Long said.

Bon Jovi Receives Endorsement As Strong Prospective Owner From Jones

Sep 12, 2014 6:12 AM

Jon Bon Jovi has joined Larry Tanenbaum of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment as the principal members of a Toronto group to bid on the Buffalo Bills.

Jerry Jones has endorsed Bon Jovi as a strong prospective owner.

"He knows many of the owners personally. All owners know of him," Jones said of Bon Jovi. "But he knows them personally. He's committed, he's very genuine.

"You talk about individuals and talk about their qualification -- there hasn't been anybody more qualified to be involved in sports ownership, or certainly ownership in the NFL, than Jon Bon Jovi."

Bills Wanted To Move Up To No. 1 To Select Sammy Watkins

May 21, 2014 12:40 AM

The Buffalo Bills were so enamored by Sammy Watkins that they attempted to move up all the way to No. 1 to ensure they were able to select him.

The Bills eventually moved up from No. 9 to No. 4 to select Watkins, giving up their first round pick next season and a fourth rounder as well.

“We went with Houston right off the bat,” Bills' director of player personnel Jim Monos said. “We tried to go to No. 1. They weren’t having it. They knew who they wanted, so we started working our way right down.”

The Browns called before the Texans submitted their pick for Jadeveon Clowney to confirm that the Bills were still interested. The Bills were unsure what the Jacksonville Jaguars were thinking with the No. 3 pick.

“We really didn’t know,” Monos said. “Jacksonville never tipped it. We had just heard so much that they needed a receiver. We thought that this was going to be Sammy. We knew that if Jacksonville didn’t take him we had a shot.”

Bills Tried To Trade Up For Carlos Hyde

Jul 2, 2014 7:26 AM

The Buffalo Bills attempted to trade up to select Carlos Hyde.

Hyde, a running back out of Ohio State, was picked by the San Francisco 49ers.

“What we were told by Miami was the 49ers deal was more appealing because they didn’t have to drop down as far because San Francisco still had a pick in the second round so that made sense to them and it made sense to us,” Doug Whaley said.

The 49ers picked Hyde and the Bills moved on to trade for Bryce Brown to round out their backfield for the 2014 season.

Browns Won Two Most Lopsided Trades Of Draft

Nov 29, 2014 4:23 AM

The Cleveland Browns won the two most lopsided trades of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Though it ranked second on Bill Barnwell's list, the Browns' acquisition of the Buffalo Bills' first round pick in 2015 can become the most impactful. The Browns acquired the ninth overall pick, along with a 2015 first rounder and a fourth rounder for the fourth overall selection, which the Bills used on Sammy Watkins.

The Bills have selected in the top half of the draft for more than a decade.

The Browns got 170.5 percent of trade value in the deal.

But the most lopsided trade was when the Browns sent the 218th overall pick in 2014 for a sixth rounder in 2015. Even if the Ravens are the 15th best team in the NFL, this like dealing 218 for 191 for free. It represents 400 percent of trade value.

Eagles Trade Bryce Brown To Bills

May 15, 2014 11:49 PM

The Philadelphia Eagles have traded Bryce Brown to the Buffalo Bills for a conditional 2015 fourth round pick that can become a third rounder in 2016.

The Bills and Eagles also swapped 2014 seventh round picks.

Brown adds depth to the Bills' backfield as C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson enter the finals seasons of their contracts.

Brown saw reduced playing time last season under first-year Eagles coach Chip Kelly. In 16 games, including one start, he rushed 75 times for 314 yards with two touchdowns. Brown figured to have his playing time further reduced due to the acquisition of Darren Sproles.

49ers Trade 4th Rounder To Bills For Stevie Johnson

Jul 13, 2014 9:02 PM

The San Francisco 49ers have acquired Stevie Johnson from the Buffalo Bills.

The 49ers will send a conditional 2015 fourth round pick that can become a third rounder.

Johnson became expendable for the Bills following their offseason acquisitions of Sammy Watkins in the draft and Mike Williams.

Johnson had 52 catches for 597 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games last season for the Bills, but he had over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the previous three campaigns. Johnson turns 28 in July.

Goodell: Buffalo Needs New Stadium For Bills To Remain Viable

May 19, 2014 11:59 PM

Roger Goodell believes the Buffalo Bills need a new stadium in order to remain viable.

"Yes, I do," Goodell told reporters Wednesday in New York City. "We said at the time when they entered into a new lease that this is really a short-term solution. We need to find the right long-term solution that's good for the community and can help the Bills to continue to be successful in western New York."

The Bills are entering the second year of a 10-year lease with Erie County to play in Ralph Wilson Stadium, which opened in 1973. Despite $130 million in renovations this offseason, the facility lacks the amenities of most others in the NFL.

The Associated Press reported Saturday that the Bills could be sold by July and the sale approved by NFL owners as soon as the league's meetings in October.

The Bills' lease prevents them from moving until early 2020.

Marcell Dareus Arrested On Drug Charges

May 22, 2014 5:06 PM

Marcell Dareus was arrested on Monday in Alabama on drug charges.

Dareus originally was stopped for speeding, but he was also in possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Dareus is the Pro Bowl defensive lineman of the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills exercised the fifth-year option on his contract in April. However, Dareus ran into trouble with first-year coach Doug Marrone last season. He was held out from starting each of the Bills' final two games for violating a team rule.
