Cardinals Confident Of Agreeing To New Deal With Larry Fitzgerald

Jan 30, 2015 5:59 PM

The Arizona Cardinals are confident they will be able to agree upon a restructured deal with Larry Fitzgerald.

"Well last year, we made some changes to his contract to free up some cap space last year that got moved into 2015, so we're right now trying to work with him," Michael Bidwell said. "He and I have had conversations, and after the Super Bowl and all the dust settles, we'll sit down, and I'm confident that we'll get that worked out."

The Cardinals will ask Fitzgerald to take a pay cut from his $15 million salary, which will count $23.6 million against the cap.

"We want to see Larry retire as an Arizona Cardinal several years from now -- it's not going to anytime happen soon, 'cause he's still a great player on the field. I believe this is where he wants to be. It's where we want him," Bidwill said.

The New York Jets have hired Todd Bowles as head coach.

Bowles was one of the top coaching candidates this offseason following another successful season as defensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals. The Jets also had Dan Quinn of the Seattle Seahawks high on their list and were prepared to offer the job to him had they been eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday.

Bowles will receive a four-year contract, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Bowles will join Mike Maccagnan to lead the Jets' new regime as they attempt to rebuild the franchise's credibility after a 4-12 record, its fourth consecutive non-winning season.

Kurt Warner Would Have Seriously Considered Return With Cardinals

Jan 8, 2015 2:12 PM

Kurt Warner would have seriously considered returning to the NFL had the Arizona Cardinals sought out his services.

Warner is 43 and hasn't played since the 09-10 season.

"I would have considered it," Warner said Thursday on the Dan Patrick Show. "Physically, I feel really, really good. Now, is that the same as [playing quarterback] in the NFL? No. ... Had they truly reached out and we would've talked about it, I would've considered it."

The Cardinals were forced to start Ryan Lindley following injuries to Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton.
