Kurt Warner Can't Return This Season

Dec 26, 2014 12:26 PM

Kurt Warner admitted that he considered coming out of retirement to join the Arizona Cardinals after Drew Stanton suffered a knee injury during a December 11 win over the Rams.

“It amazed me I thought about it as much as I actually thought about it,” Warner said on December 14.

But Warner isn't an option for the Cardinals even if he were sincerely interested in returning.

By league rule, the deadline for reinstatement of players on the reserve/retired list came expired on November 28.

Drew Stanton Likely Out For Season Following Surgery

Dec 27, 2014 11:22 AM

Drew Stanton will almost certainly be out for the rest of the season.

The Arizona Cardinals discovered an infection Wednesday which required arthroscopic surgery. The infection was believed to have been caused by an outside medical procedure, Ian Rapoport reported Friday.

Stanton has been out since suffering an MCL sprain earlier in the season.

With Carson Palmer out for the season, Stanton had become the Cardinals' starting quarterback.

Ryan Lindley will likely start for the Cardinals in the playoffs.

Cardinals To Start Ryan Lindley Instead Of Logan Thomas

Dec 26, 2014 12:09 AM

The Arizona Cardinals have changed direction and will start Ryan Lindley in Week 17 against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Cardinals were originally planning on starting Logan Thomas.

When naming Thomas the starter this week, Bruce Arians said it was more about finding out what the rookie could do than passing judgment on Lindley.

Drew Stanton Has 85 Percent Chance Of Starting In Playoffs

Dec 24, 2014 12:38 PM

The Arizona Cardinals are now optimistic of Drew Stanton's chances of being ready for the playoffs, indicating there's an 85 percent likelihood.

Stanton won't play against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17 unless there is an emergency.

"He's going to practice some this week, and we'll see how he goes," Bruce Arians said. "Do not plan on playing him this week unless it was absolutely necessary."

Sherman: I'd Be Benched Giving Up As Many TDs As Patrick Peterson

Dec 22, 2014 1:01 PM

Richard Sherman doesn't believe Patrick Peterson has lived up to expectations at cornerback.

“I don’t know if he should be mentioned with [the great cornerbacks in the league]," said Sherman. "You give up eight touchdowns in a year, it’s hard to be in that discussion. At any point, if I gave up that many touchdowns, I think I would be benched. You can’t give up big plays like that and still play.”

Peterson signed a five-year, $70 million extension with the Arizona Cardinals in July, but Antonio Cromartie has been the better cover cornerback this season.

Cardinals Prepared To Keep Larry Fitzgerald Despite Huge Cap Hit

Dec 23, 2014 12:12 AM

The Arizona Cardinals are prepared to keep Larry Fitzgerald next season even with his $23.6 million cap hit.

“We have to make good business decisions,” Steve Keim told Arizona Sports 98.7, via Darren Urban of the team’s official website. “I don’t think it’s any secret that we said all along that it is our intent to have Larry Fitzgerald retire a Cardinal. I don’t want to get into it too deep, but with planning purposes and financially, from a cap standpoint and all those sort of things, we have Larry’s [cap] number already baked into our numbers.

“Now, any kind of business decisions moving forward, renegotiations with Larry and that sort of thing, we’ve had ongoing talks with [agent] Eugene Parker and we will continue to have ongoing talks. But again, the best I can tell you is that it is our intent to keep Larry and make sure he stays a Cardinal the rest of his career.”

Cardinals To Start Ryan Lindley At QB

Dec 15, 2014 3:34 PM

Ryan Lindley will start at quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Drew Stanton suffered a partial tear of his ACL, in addition to a sprained MCL in the same right knee, in Thursday's win against the St. Louis Rams. Medical sources say a realistic return to action should occur in "about four weeks."

The Cardinals will also have a package in place for rookie Logan Thomas.

Dec 13, 2014 4:38 PM

Drew Stanton is out for the rest of the regular season with a knee injury, but there's hope he can return to the Arizona Cardinals for the playoffs.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Friday evening that Stanton has a Grade 2 MCL sprain and is expected back for the playoffs, per two sources.

It's a "huge relief," a source familiar with the MRI results told Rapoport.

"(Stanton) definitely has a chance to be back this season, we just don't know when," Bruce Arians said.

Drew Stanton Carted Off Field With Knee Injury

Dec 14, 2014 12:44 AM

Drew Stanton was carted off the filed in the Arizona Cardinals' 12-6 win over the St. Louis Rams with a knee injury.

The Cardinals have already lost Carson Palmer for the season due to injury.

"We know he has a knee injury," Bruce Arians said. "We have no idea what the extent of it is. He's had a previous one, so there's not any knowledge whatsoever.

"We'll take it very slow with him and see how it goes once we get in the MRI and all that information."

Ryan Lindley took over for Stanton at quarterback instead of Logan Thomas.

Also dealing with foot and hip injuries, Ellington's year is over after generating 660 yards and three touchdowns on the ground at 3.3 yards per rush.

Ellington never crossed 100 yards on the ground in 12 starts and hasn't topped 42 yards rushing in a game since Week 9.
