Tyrod Taylor Could Undergo Sports Hernia Surgery, Cost Bills $30.5M

Dec 30, 2016 9:07 AM

Tyrod Taylor will be seen by Dr. William Meyers for a severe groin injury to determine if he needs surgery.

If that happens to Taylor, the clock will begin to tick on whether he can pass a physical before the third day of the 2017 league year.

The procedure could cost the Bills $30.5 million in guaranteed money to Taylor, who the franchise appears to prefer to move on from.

Derek Carr Undergoes Surgery, Could Return For Super Bowl

Dec 28, 2016 6:50 PM

Derek Carr underwent successful surgery on Tuesday and while there's no official timeline for his return, he could conceivably be football ready in six to eight weeks.

With that timetable, Carr could be ready in some capacity for the Super Bowl if the Oakland Raiders were to advance.

Matt McGloin will start for the Raiders in the absence of Carr.

The Raiders can clinch the AFC West title and a first-round bye with either a win at Denver on Sunday or a Kansas City loss in San Diego. If the Raiders lose and the Chiefs win, Oakland will open the playoffs at AFC South champion Houston on wild-card weekend.

"We're up for the challenge," Latavius Murray said. "I know Matt is. We're not going to change anything. We're going to go out and execute and do what we do."

Terrell Suggs Insists He'll Play In 2017

Dec 27, 2016 11:05 AM

Terrell Suggs insists he'll return for his 15th NFL season in 2017.

Suggs will turn 35 next season and seemed insulted with the question of a possible retirement.

"I don't know what you heard -- what the [f---] is wrong with him?-- I was always planning to come back and doing this another year," Suggs said.

Suggs leads the Ravens with eight sacks this season, despite playing with a torn biceps in his left arm since Oct. 16.

Carlos Hyde Suffers Torn MCL

Dec 25, 2016 11:14 PM

Carlos Hyde suffered a torn MCL in the 49ers' Week 16 win over the Rams.

Hyde suffered the injury when he was hit in the left leg on a carry. Hyde walked off the field under his own power but did not return.

"It didn't feel that bad when it first happened. It's pain, there's some pain, but it didn't feel like bad pain. I've felt worse," Hyde said after Saturday's win. "That's why I was able to get up and walk off on my own."

Hyde nearly rushed for 1,000 yards this season to go with six touchdowns.

Mariota was carted off in the third quarter with an air cast on his right leg after being sacked from behind by Jaguars DT Sheldon Day.

Derek Carr Suffers Broken Right Fibula

Dec 25, 2016 11:18 PM

Derek Carr suffered a broken right fibula while getting sacked early in the fourth quarter Saturday and is out indefinitely.

Carr will undergo surgery on Sunday and the Oakland Raiders will start Matt McGloin at quarterback.

"It obviously is a blow," Jack Del Rio said. "That's what teams do; teams have to find a way to pick up and move on. We'll rally around the next guy as best we can. That's what you do.

"It will be incumbent on the offensive line and the backs to do more. The defense to do more. The special teams to do more. As a team, pick it up and do more to fill in. Obviously, it's a big setback."

In obvious pain, Carr appeared to mouth, "It's broken," as team medical personnel attended to him.

Carr, 25, could not put any weight on his right foot and had to be helped to the sideline.

Adrian Peterson Out For Week 16 Against Packers

Dec 23, 2016 1:20 PM

Adrian Peterson has been ruled out for Week 16 for the Minnesota Vikings against the Green Bay Packers.

Peterson returned for Week 15 from his meniscus surgery and rushed six times for 22 yards.

Peterson had said earlier this month he would only play if the Vikings were in playoff contention, adding it would be "pointless" to play if the Vikings weren't able to make the playoffs.

Peterson, who turns 32 in March, is on a team option for the 2017 season that includes a $6 million roster bonus on the third day of the league year. Peterson would carry an $18 million cap figure in 2017, and it seems likely the Vikings would pursue a restructured contract with the three-time NFL rushing leader, rather than picking up the option as it currently exists.
