Colin Kaepernick Meets With Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch

Feb 22, 2017 6:19 PM

The San Francisco 49ers hosted Colin Kaepernick for a meeting on Wednesday.

“I would characterize it as just a really positive discussion,” John Lynch said during an appearance on KNBR, confirming a report the sides met for the first time since Lynch and Kyle Shanahan were hired in their new roles.

Lynch said he and Shanahan have committed to being completely honest with Kaepernick, who can opt out of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent as early as next week.

“I do think that there are some things that are sacred,” Lynch said. “We did have a great discussion and I think Colin left excited and we left excited.

“And I think as Kyle and I believe, the evaluation process is still very much fluid. We’ve only been on the job a couple of weeks and I can tell you we both very much enjoyed being around Colin, and he seems like he’s a real good place.”

Philips Rivers Says He'll Always Be 'Playing For San Diego'

Feb 22, 2017 8:17 AM

Philip Rivers drew a standing ovation at the San Diego Hall of Champions dinner on Tuesday night, telling the audience, "I hope that you can always see me as [a San Diego Charger]."

The Chargers are relocating from San Diego to Los Angeles.

"It really was special over the last decade," Rivers, 35, said. "The only regret I have is not winning it all while we were here. It's something we always wanted to do and get done for this community and for our team."

"It has been very special to be a San Diego Charger," he continued. "And I hope that you can always see me as that.

"I know it'll be different, but just know that ... I'll play like crazy and fight like crazy, as a Los Angeles Charger, just like I did for you guys. And I know y'all can respect and understand that. But I hope you also know that I will always be playing for San Diego as well."

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Rivers said he took into account the team's potential move to Los Angeles when he decided in 2015 to sign a contract extension through 2019.

Bears Begin Seeking Trade For Jay Cutler

Feb 21, 2017 7:09 PM

The Chicago Bears have actively begun seeking a trade of Jay Cutler.

Chicago are trying to acquire draft compensation for Cutler and talks are expected to accelerate heading into the combine.

While Cutler's contract does not include a no-trade clause, there remains a widespread belief that a deal will require both Cutler and the Bears to agree on the suitor.

Cutler has little incentive to play for a noncompetitive team given the lack of any guaranteed money in his current contract

DeSean Jackson: Return To Eagles Would Be 'Great Story'

Feb 21, 2017 4:38 PM

DeSean Jackson says that if he leaves the Washington Redskins in free agency he wants to play for a "great quarterback" and that re-joining the Philadelphia Eagles would be a "great story."

Jackson spoke at length to ESPN's Adam Schefter on the reporter's Know Them From Adam podcast.

The wide receiver played his first six NFL seasons with the Eagles before he was released by then-coach Chip Kelly.

"It definitely is a great story or ending, I guess you could say," he said.

"Starting your career somewhere then going to a division rival team [and] having the possibility of maybe going back. You just kind of think about all of that when you start somewhere maybe you could finish it. There is just a lot of speculation of a lot of thoughts. It all sounds good, but you really never know until the final decision is made," he said.

Pat Shurmur Focused On New Offensive Approach For Vikings

Feb 21, 2017 7:31 AM

The Minnesota Vikings struggled offensively last season for a number of reasons, including the loss of Teddy Bridgewater for the season, a dinged-up Adrian Peterson and the resignation of Norv Turner at midseason.

Pat Shurmur is now working to rebuild the Minnesota offense over the course of an entire offseason.

"There will be things we do where we’ll be able to operate differently. Some of the plays will look different maybe in special situations," Shurmur said. "But the key thing is that we have to do a better job of running the football in all situations, and I think that will be a focal point.

"From an offensive standpoint, you have to be able to score points so we need to be more efficient running the ball, hopefully more explosive, and then when we get in there close we have to score points."

The Vikings finished last season ranked 28th in the league in total offense, averaging just 315.1 yards per game. They ranked 23rd in points per game with 20.4 points per game as well.

Kyle Shanahan: 49ers Will Be Patient At Quarterback

Feb 21, 2017 7:26 AM

Kyle Shanahan says the San Francisco 49ers will be patient in their search for a franchise quarterback.

Shanahan has been linked to Kirk Cousins, who he coached with the Washington Redskins.

"You're not trying to commit everything to one year," Shanahan told KNBR-AM in San Francisco. "Yes, you want to win right away. That's the goal of everybody. But you don't want to do that at the expense of hurting your future.

"You don't want to gamble. You want to be aggressive in everything, but you got to do what's right. You have to build your team the right way and that's what I mean by being patient."
