Draft week is finally here! All of the months of speculation, smokescreens and hyperbole concludes this Thursday thru Saturday at Grant Park in Chicago with the 2016 NFL Draft.

I’ll be at the draft on Saturday, enjoying the crowd of some 150,000 in Draft Town with my son. Thursday I’ll be broadcasting live on ESPN 96.1 in Grand Rapids from 3-7 from Peppino’s in downtown Grand Rapids. If you’re anywhere near the 616, please stop out and join in the festivities. Friday I’ll be in the co-host chair from 3-6, so tune in or stream it on your iHeart app.

Enough of the shameless self-promotion. Here is my guess at how the draft plays out. I included some trades in the first round, but I did not adjust the corollary picks later on because it’s all pure conjecture and it just gets too complicated. Be aware that after about pick 50 it’s much more about trying to slot the player than marrying a player to a team.

1. Los Angeles Rams: Jared Goff, QB, California. No surprise here as they didn’t give away the keys to the city for anything other than what they consider the best QB in the draft.

2. Philadelphia Eagles: Carson Wentz, QB, North Dakota State. The bold trade up sees the new Eagles regime banking on the FCS wunderkind.

3. San Diego Chargers: DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon. It might not be at this slot, but the fire to the Buckner/SD smoke is real.

4. Dallas Cowboys: Jalen Ramsey, DB, Florida State. Pairing the versatile, highly-skilled Ramsey with last year’s first-rounder Byron Jones gives the Cowboys a dynamic young secondary. Zeke Elliott still wouldn’t surprise me. Joey Bosa would.

5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Joey Bosa, DE, Ohio State. I had several trades projected here but ultimately settled on a guy who really fits their needy defense. If they trade back, I suspect it’s for Myles Jack and the bonus picks

6. Baltimore Ravens: Ronnie Stanley, OT, Notre Dame. Hard to pass on Tunsil but many believe the Ravens are one of the founders of the “Stanley > Tunsil” whispers. In one draft version I scrapped I had them trading up to get Jalen Ramsey.

7. San Francisco 49ers: Myles Jack, DEF, UCLA. Jack is impossible to slot with any accuracy. He could go 5, he could go here, he could even drop beyond 14 with his questionable knee and lack of a defined position. I can see Chip Kelly loving him and taking the chance. Tunsil here makes a lot of sense too. I don’t see a QB, not here.

8. *New York Jets (trade w/ Cleveland): Paxton Lynch, QB, Memphis. It gets wild as the Jets ship No. 20 overall, Muhammad Wilkerson and 3rd round picks this year and next to the Browns to secure their QB of the future in Lynch. If the Browns keep the pick, which is definitely more likely than this concoction, I believe they take a defender like Shaq Lawson or Sheldon Rankins.

In the alternate scenario, Miami trades up here and takes Zeke Elliott, the Browns take Leonard Floyd or Darron Lee at 13.

9. *Tennessee Titans (trade w/ Tampa Bay): Laremy Tunsil, OT, Ole Miss. The player they would have taken at No. 1 is ripe for the picking, so the Titans package some of the bountiful pick harvest from the Rams (15 and a 2nd and 3rd, take your pick which ones) and stop the free fall for arguably the best overall player in the draft in Tunsil.

If the Bucs stay, Vernon Hargreaves seems to have a lot of traction and I won’t fight that. Tunsil would have to tempt them too.

10. New York Giants: Jack Conklin, OT, Michigan State. They did take a first-round OT last year, but that pick already looks tenuous and they lost Will Beatty too. I know the Giants have done extensive homework on Conklin, who would definitely elevate the run game.

11. Chicago Bears: Sheldon Rankins, DT, Louisville. Lots of smoke to this selection. Is the fire real? It certainly makes sense for the Bears to bolster the pass rush even if the talented Rankins seems an odd schematic fit.

12. New Orleans Saints: Shaq Lawson, DE, Clemson. Many think Lawson’s linemate Kevin Dodd has a chance to be the pick here, but with Lawson dropping I can’t see a team choosing Dodd over him. All signs point to pass rush help here. Sleeper pick: A’Shawn Robinson

13. Miami Dolphins: Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Ohio State. In this case they don’t have to move up to land the highly talented Buckeye back, as many expect they might do. This could be the pick at No. 7 or 8 too.

14. Oakland Raiders: Darron Lee, DEF, Ohio State. I changed Lee’s designation from LB to DEF because some teams view him as a safety. The fungible position is growing in popularity and the Raiders need help at either spot. I’m told they really, really like Jack Conklin, read into that what you will…

15. *Tampa Bay Buccaneers (above trade w/ TEN): Vernon Hargreaves III, CB, Florida. Many expect this to be the pick at 9, so at 15 in my mythical trade it makes perfect sense.

16. Detroit Lions: Ryan Kelly, C, Alabama. I had the Lions trading down and taking Kelly, but none of the trades I fabricated made sense. That doesn’t mean Detroit won’t trade down and take Kelly. Know this: the team sees center as a significantly bigger short-term problem area than offensive tackle, if they go OL. A defensive lineman is certainly a possibility, as is William Jackson.

17. Atlanta Falcons: Leonard Floyd, LB, Georgia. One of the most common projections for some time, I’ll roll with it. There are whispers Keanu Neal is in play but I’ll believe it when I see it. Sleeper pick: Will Fuller.

18. Indianapolis Colts: A’Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama. Because Ryan Grigson will disappoint Colts fans once again, as is his custom in throwing first-round curveballs. But understand the NFL views Robinson as an impact player a lot more than the media does.

19. Buffalo Bills: Kevin Dodd, DE, Clemson. I head the QB noise and taking Connor Cook here wouldn’t surprise me one bit. Christian Hackenberg? That’s a stretch. Dodd replaces Mario Williams and don’t forget this is a Ryan Brothers team that wants to disrupt the opposing offense more than it wants to succeed with its own offense. Robert Nkemdiche was a strong consideration.

20. *Cleveland Browns (from earlier trade w/ NYJ): Will Fuller, WR, Notre Dame. I had Cleveland jockeying back up with the extra picks, but it just got to complicated. They have to get RG3, or whomever the next QB du jour will be, significantly better weapons. Fuller brings field-stretching speed and big-play potential.

21. Washington: Jarran Reed, DT, Alabama. The Josh Norman surprise means the team can focus on the lines. It’s a poorly kept secret they covet Ryan Kelly, but here they get his Alabama teammate to fortify the middle of the defense. A trade back here for a team coming up to get a QB is a real possibility.

22. Houston Texans: Corey Coleman, WR, Baylor. Many expect a wideout here, and it makes sense. Coleman brings a dynamic downfield threat to complement Nuk Hopkins. Could be Josh Doctson. Could also be Taylor Decker if Rick Smith opts for OL help.

23. Minnesota Vikings: Josh Doctson, WR, TCU. Another widely projected pick that seems to have real legs. This is another viable trade-up spot for a team like Cleveland or San Francisco looking to come up and get a QB like Connor Cook.

24. Cincinnati Bengals: Keanu Neal, S, Florida. He’s invited to the draft for a reason, and the hard-hitting safety waits no longer as the Bengals make the surprise pick here. The way the WRs played out here is the worst-case scenario.

25. Pittsburgh Steelers: William Jackson III, CB, Houston. I think most folks in Chicago for the draft, and certainly those in Western PA, would be surprised if Jackson isn’t the pick under these circumstances. Keanu Neal definitely in play if this unfolds differently.

26. Seattle Seahawks: Taylor Decker, OT, Ohio State. He’s not the athletic freak they’ve often targeted, but he’s no slouch either. Decker is also a tough, highly competitive football player and Pete Carroll & Co. value that very highly.

27. Green Bay Packers: Chris Jones, DT, Mississippi State. Slotting Jones is difficult because he’s quite skilled but also one of the least talked about top 40 players in recent memory. He can play all over the line in Green Bay’s diverse defense and has impact upside. I had Reggie Ragland here before editing.

28. Kansas City Chiefs: Germain Ifedi, OT, Texas A&M. I had Laquon Treadwell here and he could very well be the pick, but opted with the long Aggie after looking at their depth chart along the offensive line.

29. Arizona Cardinals: Robert Nkemdiche, DT, Ole Miss. Questions about his quirky personality and underwhelming production drag Nkemdiche down, but his athletic potential remains sky high for the right team. I’m guessing the Cardinals think they’re that team. Trade back from here seems more likely than not.

30. Carolina Panthers: T.J. Green, DB, Clemson. Green’s astronomical rise from middle-round safety to first-round corner is complete as the Panthers scramble to replace Josh Norman. The athleticism is there, and if he develops like Norman did makes GM Dave Gettleman look genius.

31. Denver Broncos: Connor Cook, QB, Michigan State. I’ve argued until I’m blue in the face Cook is the most NFL-ready QB in this draft, and he goes to a team which needs that more than it needs developmental upside.
